Apple releases Final Cut Pro 10.6.2 with duplicate detection, speech isolation and optimized Mac Studio performance

Apple has released the latest version of Final Cut Pro, version 10.6.2. The FCP update includes two major new features - duplicate detection and voice isolation. Duplicate detection is a feature that will be very popular for those editing long-form content and documentaries, while speech isolation uses machine learning to help isolate speech frequencies.

Updates for Final Cut Pro 10.6.2 and its companion apps (Motion and Compressor) are now available for download on the Mac App Store.

Steve Martin from Ripple Training has given a good breakdown of duplicate detection and speech isolation. As Martin explains, repeat detection is great for identifying repeating ranges within a timeline, making it a great tool for long-form video content.

To quickly identify repeating ranges, simply click the Clip Appearance button and enable repeating ranges. Thereafter, duplicates in the timeline are identified by a warning band at the top of the clip. Users can use the convenient timeline index to further identify and view the order in which duplicate clips appear.

In addition to duplicate detection, Final Cut Pro 10.6.2 also includes a new speech isolation feature. Speech isolation helps isolate speech frequencies from noisy environments using machine learning. To enable Speech Isolation, simply highlight a clip in the timeline and check the Speech Isolation option in the Audio section. Listening to Martin's sample clip in the video above, I was impressed with the results, especially the sample recorded in a noisy cafe.

Previous Final Cut Pro updates brought machine learning-driven native motion tracking to Apple’s professional NLE, and Apple continues to rely on machine learning to deliver advanced native features in its professional apps. Instead of relying on third-party plug-ins, users now have compelling built-in options for motion tracking and voice isolation.
