Apple’s two-year transition to its own silicon is finally over, except for one product: the Mac Pro. Pro Display XDR isn't part of the Mac silicon transition, but users are eager to see where it goes next.

Both these products were launched by Apple during WWDC19 and are aimed at the most demanding customers. Here's a roundup of Apple's plans for the next-generation Mac Pro and Pro Display XDR.

In November 2020, Apple began a two-year transition to its own chips. The company ends March 2022 after launching new Mac Studio

At the end of the Peek Performance event, Apple also teased that a Mac Pro with its own chips was also in the works, although the company currently has no other Anything can be shared.

Apple has been developing a new 40-core Mac Pro since last May.

Mac Pro 和 Pro Display XDR:这是对新机型的期待

The redesigned Mac Pro, codenamed Jade 2C-Die and Jade 4C-Die, is planned to launch with 20 or 40 compute core variants, powered by 16 high-end Performance or 32 high-performance cores and 4 or 8 high-efficiency cores. The chips will also include 64-core or 128-core graphics options. The computing core count exceeds the 28 cores offered by today's Intel Mac Pro chips, while a higher-end graphics chip will replace parts now manufactured by Advanced Micro Devices Inc.

As for the Mac Pro’s design, Bloomberg says it “is expected to look like a scaled-down version of the current design.” Even with some M2 Macs available now, it's unclear when Apple plans to talk more about the Mac Pro, but October might be the best time.

What about Pro Display XDR?

Apple has been working on a new external monitor with a dedicated A13 chip and Neural Engine, which we now know is the Studio Display.

Apple is working on another monitor, and this time, it may replace the Pro Display XDR with a 7K panel.

While it’s unclear whether the new Apple Studio Display is a replacement for the Pro Display XDR or a new option in the product line with unique features, sources familiar with the matter told 9to5Mac that the new display will have a resolution of 7K.

In comparison, the Pro Display XDR has a 32-inch 6K (6016 x 3384) panel with 218 pixels per inch. The higher resolution could mean the new Apple Studio Display will have a higher pixel density of 245 PPI, or it will keep the same 218 PPI as the Pro Display XDR, but on a larger 36-inch panel.

Mac Pro 和 Pro Display XDR:这是对新机型的期待

#As we reported in March, analysts Ming-Chi Kuo and Ross Young had different opinions on the capabilities of the Pro Display XDR.

(...) In fact, Ross Young said that he expects Apple to launch a 27-inch mini-LED display with 5K resolution as early as June. Their analytics firm believes production has already begun.

However, Ming-Chi Kuo suggested the exact opposite, saying on Twitter that Apple may not launch new mini-LED products this year due to concerns about high costs.
