AirPlay support coming to Cisco's Webex devices later this year

Cisco has announced significant updates to its Webex Room, Desk, and Board series of devices, providing deeper functionality for iPhone, iPad, and Mac users. With the June update, Cisco's Room, Desk, and Board devices will be able to serve as AirPlay targets, allowing Apple users to easily cast their screen to one of the devices.

For those unfamiliar, the Room, Desk, and Board series of products are Cisco hardware devices designed specifically for Webex conferencing. While they are not necessarily popular among consumers, they are very common in enterprise environments.

While Cisco doesn’t have an exact version of AirPlay support yet, the company promises the feature will be available sometime in June 2022. Once launched, the feature will allow iPhone, iPad and Mac users to cast their screens to Webex’s Room, Desk and Board series of devices using AirPlay.

With Apple AirPlay support across our Webex Room, Desk, and Board lineup, there's no need to fiddle with cables or connections when trying to share content with colleagues. Users can now easily connect wirelessly to share their iPhone, iPad, and Mac screens—whether in a meeting room or on a remote video call.

Administrators can also require a PIN during the initial AirPlay connection or every time someone uses AirPlay for added security.

Susan Prescott, Apple's vice president of enterprise and education marketing, touted the new integration in a statement:
