Discord is a widely used messaging app. It is a voice, video, and messaging app that allows people to talk to each other, group chat, even play games, and more. One such feature is Push to Talk. You may ask what is Push to Talk and what is it used for? Let's say you're playing a game in a group, and you're in a place with so much background noise that your other teammates are distracted from the game. If Push to Talk is enabled, you are muted and cannot speak until you unmute. Wouldn't that be helpful? Now, let's see how to enable Push to Talk and use it effectively.
Step 1: Open the Discord app and click Settings at the bottom, under your username beside.
Step 2: Scroll down on the left side and find Voice & Video, click on it.
Step 3: Click the Push to Talk radio button on the right to enable the feature.
There are several ways to use this feature effectively. Saying that, this means that there are options like shortcuts, push-to-talk release delays, etc. that we can get more out of.
Step 1: Suppose you want to unmute the microphone during a call, you can set a shortcut key. Instead of clicking the microphone, you can click the shortcut key you have set.
Step 2: To do this, stay on the settings page (follow steps 1 to 3 in the previous section), under the Push to Talk radio button , you'll find a shortcut option.
Step 3: To set the shortcut key, click the box under Shortcut. Once you click on it, it will appear in red.
Step 4: Now press whichever key you want to set and click Stop Recording. Here, I set C as my shortcut key. So if I want to talk, I can press C to unmute the microphone.
Note: The shortcut key does not have to be just one letter or number, nor does it have to be a key. It can also be multiple key combinations. An example is shown below.
You can change the keys by clicking Edit key bindings
Press C and 3 keys at the same time (i.e. C3 ), then click Stop recording. Now, if you press C and the 3 keys at the same time, you will be unmuted and ready to speak.
Step 5 : There is a slider next to Shortcut, which is the push-to-talk release delay. This is used to modify the time the Discord app takes to cut off your voice signal after you release the Push to Talk key. You can modify it by moving the slider to the left or right as needed.
Step 6: Time range from zero milliseconds to a maximum of two seconds. Suppose if you set (0ms) then your voice signal will be cut off immediately when you release the key. Alternatively, if you set a hypothetical delay of one second (1 second), then when you release the key it will wait for one second and then stop.
