Home >Common Problem >Fix: Sent Items folder missing in Outlook
Outlook is a free and secure email application from Microsoft that is used around the world. When you send an email or attachment to anyone using Outlook, it is saved in the Sent Items folder by default. However, many users find that this Sent Items folder is missing in their Outlook when they try to find certain emails or attachments in the Sent Items folder.
After investigating this issue, we found that this folder did not disappear, but was automatically renamed to "Contacts". Items recently sent by the user can now be seen in this newly renamed folder Contacts. If you open Outlook in webmail, you will notice the same issue with the Sent Items folder being renamed to Contacts. Even in webmail you cannot rename the default folder as the option will be grayed out.
In Outlook, if you check the properties of this Sent Items folder that has been renamed Contacts, you will see that the method used to post to this folder isIPM.Post, this is the publishing method of sent mail. There is always a folder called "Contacts" in Outlook that contains contact information from your mailbox. If you check the properties of the original Contact folder, you will see that IPM.Contact is the publish method for this folder. Therefore, we can clearly see that the new Contacts folder with IPM.Post as the publishing method is actually the Sent Mail folder.
