Windows 11 KB5016629 导致新问题,微软确认一个错误

KB5016629: This month’s latest Windows 11 security update is causing new problems for some people, according to reports and Microsoft’s own update documentation.

The second Tuesday of every month always sees a series of fixes and improvements for Windows. Microsoft has been releasing Patch Tuesday updates since October 2003, and KB5016629 is the latest security update released as part of the August 2022 cycle. This patch includes non-security and security improvements for supported hardware.

In addition to fixes, cumulative updates are also plagued by minor issues, and the August 2022 update is no exception. This month's Windows 11 update has also caused problems for users, including an error where the update failed to install without any error message.

According to the release notes, Microsoft has fixed a known issue that prevents users from opening the Start menu. This bug, first reported in the July 2022 update, prevents users from accessing Start when they tap or click the Start button or use Windows keyboard shortcuts.

Windows 11 KB5016629 Issue

As mentioned at the beginning, the August 2022 Update for Windows 11 is apparently not installable for many people.

“2022-08 Cumulative Update for Windows 11 for x64-based Systems (KB5016629) – Update failed with Bad Installation error – 0x80073701,” the error message reads.

"It takes so long to download and then get this error - with no other information - someone at Microsoft must know what the error code means and how to correct it," one of the frustrated users noted in the feedback center.

There have been similar reports in the Feedback Center, but Microsoft has not yet acknowledged the bug.

However, Microsoft has confirmed a known issue in the update - a bug that may break XPS Viewer and users may be unable to open XPS documents in certain non-English languages. This includes Japanese and Chinese character encodings. This bug affects both XML Paper Specification (XPS) and Open XML Paper Specification (OXPS) files.

If your device is affected, the error message "This page cannot be displayed" will appear in XPS Viewer. The same bug can also cause high CPU usage and significantly increase the application's memory usage.

"If XPS Viewer does not close when an error is encountered, it may reach 2.5GB of memory usage before unexpectedly closing," Microsoft notes. The company also confirmed that most home users won't encounter this issue.
