How to track and view steps on Apple Watch
Apple Watch automatically tracks steps when you wear it. Here's how to check your progress:
- Open the Activity app on your Apple Watch
- Use the Digital Crown to swipe down or scroll down
- Your daily steps, distance and flights climbed will show at the bottom
- You can also swipe down further and click Weekly Summary To get more data
- To see your step count and related activity data for another day, you'll need to use the Fitness app on your iPhone (walkthrough below)

How to track Apple Watch steps on iPhone
There are two ways to check steps and distance on iPhone.
Daily steps and distance
- Open the Fitness app
- Select the Summary tab
- Tap the activity ring at the top
- Swipe down to see your step count and distance at the bottom, or by swiping or tapping on the top activity ring Calendar icon to select another date
Distance Trend
- OpenFitness App
- SelectSummary Tab
- Swipe down to see trends in your walks/runsDistance and more
- Click Show more next to Trends to see more data

Keep in mind that data between Apple Watch and iPhone is not always fully synced. But after a few minutes of fresh activity, your iPhone should match your watch.
One thing to note is if you take off your Apple Watch and put on your iPhone and do a lot of walking or running. In this case, the Health app on the iPhone will show more steps than the Activity app pulled from the Apple Watch data.
