Windows 11 Task Manager will soon add search functionality

Microsoft is testing a new search feature in Windows Task Manager that may be available to all users of the Windows operating system in the future. How it’s done:

1. Download the latest version of ViVeTool from the GitHub repository.
2. After the download is complete, unzip the archive to your local system.
3. Open an elevated terminal prompt using Windows-X.
4. Navigate to the ViVeTool folder.
5. Run command.\vivetool /enable /id:39420424
6. Restart the computer.

Note that you can disable this feature at any time by replacing enable with disable in the command.

Open Task Manager using the shortcut Ctlr-Shift-Esc, or right-click on the taskbar and select Task Manager from the context menu.

The search function needs some work as it only accepts full process names at the time. Searching for edge returns no processes because msedge.exe is required. Work on the feature will likely continue, and it will be interesting to see if the search functionality improves in the coming weeks and months.

Microsoft has made some improvements to Task Manager in recent versions. The Windows 11 2022 update removes Task Manager’s basic view mode, changing the interface by moving the tab row to one side and removing the classic menu bar.
