Starting with Windows 11 22H2, setting up a new device will require a Microsoft account and an Internet connection. Previously, Windows 11 only required a Microsoft account to install Windows 11 Home. Going forward, both Windows 11 Home and Pro will require a Microsoft account login to set up the device.
In other words, setting up a Windows 11 installation running Home or Pro is more cumbersome because you need to enter your credentials to boot to the desktop. A login is required during the setup screen itself which is OOBE. Likewise, Microsoft says users will also need an internet connection during initial setup.
Microsoft is testing many new features in Windows 11, as well as improvements and changes to OOBE. The change will apparently arrive with Windows 11 version 22H2 (Fall 2022 Update), according to Microsoft officials.
Previously, you could create a local user account during initial setup because Microsoft provided a choice between offline and online. Of course, you can still enter a fake email ID and skip the forced login, but there is a new bypass method that simply eliminates the login process itself.
Solid Windows Rufus now lets you download and install Windows 11 without creating a Microsoft account. In Rufus version 3.19, you can bypass the Windows 11 requirement as well as the Microsoft account login.
This build is currently in beta and will be ready when Windows 11’s 2022 Fall Update arrives.
Currently, it appears that Windows 10 Home and Pro installations still require a Microsoft account. Windows 11 Enterprise will still support local accounts by default.
According to reports, Microsoft is currently planning to launch Windows 11 version 22H2 in the fall, possibly around October, as the company aims to complete drivers by the end of September.
