Windows 11 的选项卡式文件资源管理器从构建中消失 - 但它很快就会恢复

Tabs in your web browser make the browsing experience great, and they allow you to easily manage multiple web sessions. Windows 11 apps like Explorer don't officially support tabs, but that will change with a future update.

So, what does this look like in practice? Suppose you have a directory open in a File Explorer window and you want to easily copy files from another directory or folder. All you need to do is open the second folder in another tab and easily move items or compare information between directories.

As you can see in the screenshot below, you can simply click on the new button with the "plus" icon to open a tab in File Explorer, just like in Microsoft Edge or Just like opening a new tab in Google Chrome. You can then launch more Explorer windows as tabs within the main window.

An early version of Tabbed File Explorer first appeared in Build 22572, a development version of Windows 11 version 22H2 , but was removed in the newer Build 22579. It then reappeared in a minor update to Windows 11 (Build 22579.100), but now the feature has been removed from this week's latest update (Build 22581).

Build 22581 is available to Beta channel users and all the features included in this build are actually tied to Sun Valley 2. Unlike the Dev Channel, which will soon contain builds from version 23H2, the Beta Channel will have builds from the NI (Nickel) development branch, which is the branch of Sun Valley 2 development, or 22H2.

As mentioned previously, Sun Valley 2 Build 22581 removes the File Explorer tab added in earlier development builds. This has led many to believe that the feature won't be officially included in the next major update to Windows 11, and won't be released in 2022 at all.

However, it is still possible that the File Explorer tab will appear in a production or stable release this year, either through the Sun Valley 2 update itself or through a cumulative update for Sun Valley 2.

This is because different Windows 11 branches use different feature configurations (Speed IDs for turning on experimental features). Build 22579 or Build 22581 from ni_release does not include tabs, while newer cumulative updates or servicing pipeline updates from ni_release_svc (22579.100, 22581.100, etc.) enable tabs.

Based on reports and references so far, it’s unclear whether this feature will be included in the Windows 11 22H2 RTM build.
