Microsoft has released Visual Studio 2022 for Mac Preview 6, which includes numerous bug fixes and improvements to the native UI. Now, the company has launched Preview 7, which like previous versions, comes packed with bug fixes, UI enhancements, and support for more tools.

In Preview 7, Microsoft has fixed some stability and crash issues, fixed shortcuts on the Spanish keyboard layout, and also ensured breakpoints when debugging libraries Work, etc.

As usual, Microsoft is continuing its efforts to use native macOS UI controls and design language in Visual Studio. Preview 7 expands on this to cover snippets, C# code formatting, external tools, and behavior screens for CSS, HTML, and JSON. This essentially means that the entire Preferences UI has been moved to a native macOS design.

Microsoft has also put a lot of work into the Xamarin mobile tools in this release, after previously saying it would not be accepting Xamarin feedback in Preview 6. The latest release includes more than 50 bug fixes for mobile workloads. Microsoft has stated that the reason for this is that Xamarin should be in a stable state for developers once Visual Studio version 17.0 is generally available (GA). Unfortunately, .NET MAUI support won't be completed by this deadline, but the company is continuing to work on it.

Finally, developing serverless applications using Azure Functions V4 is now supported. Microsoft has said:

Adding support for Azure Functions V4 also enables Azure Functions development on M1 (arm64)-based processors, which requires the arm64 .NET 6 SDK. In this release, you can use Azure Functions V4 on Intel or M1-based machines. Azure Functions V2 & V3 projects can be opened and developed on Intel-based processors; support for creating V2 or V3 projects on Intel devices will be restored in an upcoming preview release.

You can trigger updates to Visual Studio 2022 for Mac 17.0 Preview 7 by navigating to Visual Studio > Check for Updates or downloading the latest version directly from here.
