Metacritic --- the site many gamers visit to see how critics rank titles -- has released its annual list of publishers. As expected, Microsoft had a great year with games like Forza Horizon 5, Halo Infinite, Psychonauts 2, and more. It's at the top of the list because the company has performed well over the past year, earning awards such as Rating sites and No. 1 and Take-Two Interactive for any publisher including Sony. Metacritic says: It is extremely rare for a publisher to average a release score above 80 in a calendar year. But how often does a company average over 85? Never...until this year. Microsoft, our runaway winner of this year's Publisher of the Year honors, is certainly publishing fewer books in 2021 than in previous years. But the games it does release are excellent, making Microsoft the only publisher with a 100% success rate. Three different titles scored 90 or higher...and their success almost made Halo Infinite look like a disappointment with only an 87 score. It's great to see Microsoft releasing great games. The company worked hard to do just that with the Xbox One generation. However, it will be interesting to see if this continues given the impending acquisition of Activision Blizzard.
