In a new job listing, Microsoft has confirmed that it will consolidate its Android efforts into a division called "Android Microsoft Platform and Experience." The move could allow for further integration between Windows 11 and Android, and Microsoft could be planning to move beyond Samsung phones.
Earlier this week, Microsoft released several job listings for its new division, Android Microsoft Platforms and Experiences, aiming to bring apps/services Phone Link or Your Phone, SwiftKey, Microsoft Launcher, and more including Other services, including the "Surface Duo Experience", are grouped into one allocation.
"The Android Microsoft Platform and Experience team is building the future. We are a world-class organization of platforms, middleware, applications and services that bring end-to-end experiences to life in every form factor - Support customers with powerful connections to Windows, M365 and Azure on the devices they use,” the job listing reads.
While there are no details and we don't know how the company plans to double down on Android, we can expect significant improvements to apps like Phone Link and Microsoft Launcher in the coming months.
For example, future updates may bring tighter integration between these Android apps and Windows 11.
Microsoft focuses on the consumer market
Under the leadership of Satya Nadella, Microsoft has been increasing investment in cloud computing and Office. However, Microsoft's strategy seems to have changed in the wake of the pandemic, as the company promises to make Windows better and turn it into a product that customers actively love.
“I want to move Windows from people needing it — and knowing they need it — to loving it and wanting it,” Microsoft’s Panos Panay said last year.
Although Microsoft has confirmed that it will no longer make phones, the company can still create an interoperable experience similar to iPhones and macOS computers. By doubling down on its efforts and integrations, Microsoft can convince more people to use Windows 11 for everyday tasks.
Microsoft recently updated its SwiftKey keyboard with Windows Clipboard Sync, and the company also renamed the "Your Phone" app to "Phone Link" to support Honor devices, signaling an existing partnership with Samsung Partnerships are subject to change.
