Microsoft has released Edge 102 in the stable channel with no changes but a few new policies that will be of little value to the average customer. Still, there's a big change hiding behind the experimental logo. As it turns out, Edge 102 brings the option to enable a Windows 11-like design overhaul.

Microsoft added the option to enable the new UI in Edge in the Canary channel a month ago. When using the default theme, it adds a mica effect to the title bar and toolbar background. Additionally, users can enable new circular tabs using a separate switch that is also responsible for Mica on the toolbar.

After a short period of testing, the company decided to add the new design to the stable channel for more users to test and provide feedback. Still, the redesigned UI is hidden behind the logo, so you won't see it by default. Here's how to enable it:

  1. Update Edge to version 102 or higher.
  2. Paste the following URL into the address bar: edge://flags/#edge-visual-rejuv-show-settings.
  3. Set the flag to Enabled and restart the browser.
  4. Go to Settings > Appearance and turn on the "Show Windows 11 visual effects..." option. You can also toggle the rounded corners of the tabs.
  5. Restart your browser and enjoy the visual effects.

Please note that new visual effects are in development and Microsoft warns users that they may notice some performance issues. Additionally, the redesigned UI only works with the default black and white theme.

It is worth mentioning that this is not the first time Microsoft has experimented with mica effects in Edge on Windows 11. The browser previously allowed users to enable mica on the tab strip using a flag, which is now gone in Edge 102. The latest update replaces this with new options for managing experimental appearance settings. The latter includes mica effects and circular labels, plus it may bring more changes in future updates.
