Excel is one of the most frequently used spreadsheet software in business and personal settings. Although Microsoft regularly adds enhancements to Excel, it occasionally removes some. Now, it has announced that it will end support for three features starting in June 2023. These features are available to Microsoft 365 customers, so only subscribers to the service will be affected.

The first Excel product to be discontinued was Money. This is essentially a dynamic template that enables users to securely connect to their bank’s data and sync information directly. It will no longer update your transactions after June 30, 2023. You will not be able to reconnect your existing financial account or connect to a new financial account. However, you will be able to keep your current data, and Microsoft will not be able to access it. The Redmond tech giant recommends people use other advanced budget templates available in Excel or migrate to Tiller. The latter offers more features than Money in Excel, but costs an additional $79 per year (a 60-day free trial is available for Microsoft 365 customers).

The next step is to remove the Wolfram data type. Microsoft announced a partnership with Wolfram a few years ago but has now decided not to renew it. The Excel maker will now focus on its homebrew solution. Starting June 11, 2023, refreshing of existing data types and connecting to new data types will stop working. This means that your existing data will not be deleted, you will just no longer be connected to the Wolfram Service.

Finally, Microsoft is also eliminating partner offers as the company looks to explore other areas where it can add more value to customers. Although the company didn't reveal more details, it has informed that if you sign up for any offer, you have until June 30, 2023 to redeem it before it's gone forever.

Although Microsoft has disclosed some of the reasons for discontinuing all three products, the email sent to Microsoft 365 subscribers also mentioned that "Microsoft is committed to improving your Microsoft 365 subscription. Therefore, we will occasionally remove Underutilized features and benefits." While the company has offered some replacements for its discontinued products, it will be interesting to see if this affects customer churn in any significant way.
