Microsoft has announced its next step in using OpenAI’s latest artificial intelligence technology, GPT-4, to improve its productivity software. The famous Office application will be updated with what the company calls "Copilot" to help with tasks such as writing entire documents, summarizing meetings, finding project milestones, analyzing strategic risks, and more.
This story is powered by Mosyle, the only Apple unified platform. CEO Satya Nadella sat down with Bloomberg's Emily Chang to detail the company's vision for Microsoft Office, now part of Microsoft 365. In the "coming months," Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook will be updated with the latest technology from OpenAI to deliver the new Copilot AI assistant.
Artificial intelligence assistants called Copilots will be able to generate complete documents, emails and slide decks based on knowledge gained from software scanning company documents and listening to conference calls. The technology is set to debut in the coming months, and Microsoft is already testing it with 20 companies, including eight Fortune 500 companies that Microsoft declined to name.
Nadella called the move “our next big step — putting it into the tools that everyone uses every day to do their job.” He added that he believed “new technology will Helping people create "great content, great documents, great PowerPoints and art," as well as "advanced tasks like using natural language queries to perform complex analytics."
Another part of the integration will be an app called Business Chat, which "acts as a combination chatbot and personal assistant for office workers."
Easy to use For an English query, you can ask it to summarize recent meetings, find the project's upcoming milestones, list the risks of the planned strategy and recommend how to mitigate those hazards.
The chatbot can then translate that risk and mitigation plan into an email and create a slideshow to present the plan. The software also has design features, so staff can ask for more relaxed or interesting slides and it will make the changes. In Word, the technology can suggest ways workers can rewrite a document to make it better.
The move comes after Microsoft dives headfirst into the generative AI game by integrating ChatGPT into its Bing, Edge and Skype products.
Despite some early concerns and strange experiences, Microsoft Still bullish on the focus, it said it has seen a lot of positive feedback.
The company is investing more than $10 billion in OpenAI.
An important feature is to warn users to check the AI's work if it has not been edited by a human.
"It does a lot of amazing things and it does a lot of things right, but it doesn't do everything right," said Jon, the Microsoft vice president responsible for the assistant's design. Jon Friedman said. That's why it's key, he says, for humans to control the process and how content is used.
The software is designed to remind users to check out AI jobs, Friedman said. If a staff member shares a bot-generated file without editing or changes, the software makes it clear to other users that the file was authored by Copilot.
