Step 1: Go to the folder where the files that must be compressed are located.
Step 2: As shown in the image below, right-click the file and click Properties from the context menu.
Step 3: Make sure you are on the General tab of the Properties window.
Step 4: Then, next to the Properties option, click Advanced at the bottom of the window as shown below.
Step 5: After the Advanced Properties window appears on the screen, select the "Compress content to save disk space" check box as shown below.
Note: To revert your changes, you can simply uncheck the Compress content to save disk space checkbox and click OK.
Step 6: Click "OK" to save and close the "Advanced Properties" window.
Step 7: Finally, click Apply and OK to reflect the changes. This will close the file properties window.
Compress the folder using the NTFS compression feature in Windows 11
Step 1: Right click that needs to be compressed folder.
Step 2: Select Properties from the context menu as shown in the screenshot below.
Step 3: In the folder's Properties window, click the "General" tab and then click "Advanced" at the bottom ".
#Step 4: This will open the Advanced Properties window.
Step 5: Select the Compress content to save disk space checkbox and click OK to close the window.
Step 6: Then click Apply in the properties window of the folder.
Step 7: This will prompt a small window asking you to select an option from the displayed list.
Step 8: Select the Apply changes to this folder, subfolders, and files radio button and click OK.
Step 9: Click "OK" again in the folder's properties window.
Note: You can save disk space by unchecking the Compress content checkbox and click OK to stop compressing files/folders.
Compress the drive using the NTFS compression feature in Windows 11
Step 1: To compress the drive, right-click the drive you want to compress (Example:- C:\, D:\, etc.).
Step 2: From the menu click Properties as shown below.
Step 3: By default it will open in the "General" tab, but please confirm.
Step 4: Below the capacity details there is a checkbox named Compress this drive to save disk space. Please click to view .
Step 5: When finished, click Apply.
Step 6: Then click the Apply changes to drive D:\, subfolders and files option and click OK.
Step 7: Finally, click "OK" to close the drive's properties window.
Note: You can revert the changes by unchecking them in Step 4.
