# Microsoft has released a new tool for its browser to help users monitor performance and security. “Browser Essentials” is a log-based dashboard that will eventually replace the current Performance Hub with its performance-oriented tools like Efficiency Mode and Sleeping Tabs.
In addition to providing access to existing features, Browser Essentials also provides you with an overall score for your browser's performance. This will help you understand Edge better and know if you need to turn specific features on or off, close resource-hogging tabs, and more.
Another new addition to Browser Essentials is SmartScreen reporting and scan results. It will show you how many websites and downloads SmartScreen has analyzed, giving you a detailed picture of how safe your browsing is. In addition to your personal security details, Browser Essentials also displays general information about protections in Edge, such as how many malicious websites and downloads it blocks.
Microsoft plans to expand new tools based on customer feedback, so expect to show off more in future updates. Currently, the Browser Essentials tool is available to all Canary users and about half of the users in the Dev Channel. You can access Browser Essentials using the heart button on the main toolbar. As with most early changes in Edge, you can let Microsoft know what you think using the thumbs up/down buttons.
