Windows 11 Build 25158 is now rolling out to testers in the Dev Channel with a host of improvements. For example, Microsoft is introducing support for widget notification badges. Likewise, the taskbar's search icon has a new style, including support for the search bar, similar to the version we have on Windows 10.
Windows 11 Build 25158 is not related to any specific feature update. However, it is considered part of Windows 11 version 23H2, which will be launched next year. In Build 25158, you can try out the new dynamic widget board experience, where notifications will appear directly on the taskbar.
As you can see in the screenshot below, you can click on the notification badge to open the widget board. A new banner at the top of the board will provide more information about triggering notification badges. Of course, you will be able to disable the feature or remove the widget’s icon from the taskbar.
In addition to new dynamic widget notification badge support , Microsoft is also bringing the search bar back to the taskbar. It's worth noting that this feature isn't confirmed in Windows 11 version 23H2, as it's part of the company's new A/B testing system and some users will gain access to the feature.
The search bar on the search bar will be updated with a different visual treatment, but a restart will be required to trigger this experience.
Windows 11 Build 25158 also enables DNS over TLS, a new protocol in addition to DNS over HTTPS (DoH) already included in the operating system. DNS over TLS is not a consumer-friendly feature, which means it requires advanced steps and can only be activated using the command line.
Microsoft recommends DNS over TLS only for advanced networking users.
Similarly, Windows 11 Build 25158 includes support for the new Nyala font Gurage language orthography from the Ethiopic Extended-B Unicode range.
