CleanShot X is one of our favorite Mac utilities, and it adds a bunch of powerful features to screen capture and recording on your Mac. Following a major update to the app in December, CleanShot X has been updated to version 4.1 with improved recording capabilities, new blur options for private messages, and more.
For those unfamiliar, CleanShot X replaces the built-in macOS screenshot tool with a more powerful and versatile feature set. There are powerful tools for annotating, saving images to the cloud, full-page screenshots, and more.
With today’s update to CleanShot 4.1, the app is adding a new feature to help ensure sensitive information is not visible in your screenshots. While you've always been able to pixelate sensitive information in CleanShot images, you can now also blur that information. There's also a new "Safe Blur" option that randomizes the blur pattern to make everything more difficult to read.
Another improvement in today’s update to CleanShot is the ability to lock the aspect ratio when you select a recording area. This makes it easier to record screenshots in a specific aspect ratio, such as 16:9 for uploading to YouTube.
