Stripe is launching a new closed beta program to test support for Apple's new Tap to Pay feature on iPhone, which the payments company says will launch in the spring.
Earlier Tuesday, Apple announced Tap to Pay on iPhone, a feature that will allow merchants and small businesses to accept payments without the need for separate hardware. Apple said in the announcement that it is working with Stripe to integrate the feature.
Shortly after Apple’s announcement, Stripe announced its closed beta, and users can sign up here . Stripe said it will contact interested beta testers for more details.
As part of the program, Tap to Pay on iPhone will be available on the Stripe Terminal SDK.
When the integration launches, individual merchants and small business owners will be able to accept contactless payments through Apple Pay, credit or debit cards, and digital wallets without the need for additional hardware.
Stripe’s integration will also be extended to its partners, including Shopify.
Users need to have a supported app and an iPhone XS or newer to use this feature.
Apple may introduce Tap to Pay on iPhone in an upcoming beta release. There's no word yet on when it will roll out to the public, but Stripe says its integration will roll out in the spring.
