KB5021233 is a security update that is pushed as part of the last Patch Tuesday cycle of the year. While Windows 10 is taking a backseat right now as Microsoft is busy developing Windows 11, today's update actually brings several notable changes, including the removal of Cortana from the taskbar.

So Bing information and features can now be discovered directly on the taskbar, even if the taskbar is docked at the top. You can change how searches appear on the taskbar by right-clicking anywhere on the taskbar and selecting Search. You can switch back to the search button at any time or remove it entirely.

In fact, Cortana still hasn’t been updated with WinUI 3.0 and Fluent Design on Windows 11. Microsoft has discontinued mobile apps and Cortana has taken a step back on Windows 10.
According to the official release notes, Cortana is no longer pinned to the taskbar. Cortana's unpinning on the taskbar isn't surprising, especially since it already happened on Windows 11.
