HomeDevelopment ToolsgitA brief analysis of how to submit code to the Gitee repository

Gitee is the most widely used Git warehouse hosting platform in mainland China. Many self-written projects are hosted on Gitee. However, many people don’t know what to do when they submit code to Gitee for the first time. Below, I will introduce how to submit code to the Gitee repository.

  1. Register and log in to Gitee

If you don’t have a Gitee account yet, the first step is to register a Gitee account. After successful registration, log in to your Gitee homepage.

  1. Create a new warehouse

First, you need to create a new warehouse. On the Gitee homepage, click the "New Warehouse" button, and then fill in the project's name, description, nature (public or private), language, license and other information in the pop-up interface. After filling in, click "Create Warehouse" to complete the creation.

  1. Get SSH Key

Generate SSH Key locally. This Key is used for identity authentication. On Windows systems, you can use Git Bash. The command is:

$ ssh-keygen -t rsa -C "your_email@example.com"

When generating a Key, you need to enter a password. The default empty password can be used.

The generated Key is saved in the C:\Users\your_username\.ssh directory, where id_rsa is the private key and id_rsa.pub is the public key. Copy the public key information.

  1. Add SSH Key to Gitee account

Open the Gitee interface, click on the personal avatar, select "Settings" in the drop-down menu, and enter the personal Settings page. Find "SSH Public Keys" in the left menu bar and click the "Add SSH Public Key" button.

Enter the public key information, set a note, and click "OK" to complete the addition.

  1. Clone the repository

Use Git Bash or other terminal tools to enter the local directory where you want to save the code, and then execute the following command to clone Warehouse:

$ git clone git@gitee.com:your_username/your_repository.git
  1. Submit code

Enter the local warehouse, you can modify the code, add new files, etc. as usual. Then execute the following commands to submit the code:

$ git add .
$ git commit -m "your commit message"
$ git push origin master

The functions of these commands are: add all modified files to the git cache, submit the modified code, and push the code to the master branch in the Gitee warehouse .

  1. Pull the code

If you want to pull the code and modify it locally, you can use the following command:

$ git clone git@gitee.com:your_username/your_repository.git

This command will clone the repository locally and automatically create a folder named "your_repository".

  1. Update code

After making modifications, you can use the following command to submit the code:

$ git add .
$ git commit -m "your commit message"
$ git push origin master

Note: Before submitting Before coding, you need to perform a fetch & merge operation to synchronize the modifications on the Gitee remote warehouse to the local one. Otherwise, code conflicts will be more common.

Summary

Submitting code to the Gitee repository is not a very complicated matter. You only need to follow the above steps to successfully host your own code on Gitee. When submitting code to Gitee, you need to pay attention to the details of each step to ensure the success of the code submission.
