What is mingw

MinGW is the abbreviation of Minimalist GNU for Windows. It is a collection of freely available and freely redistributable Windows-specific header files and import libraries using the GNU toolset, allowing you to generate native Windows programs on GNU/Linux and Windows platforms without the need for a third-party C runtime (C Runtime) library.

MinGW is a set of include files and port libraries that allow console-mode programs to use Microsoft's standard C Runtime (C Runtime) library (MSVCRT.DLL), which is available on all NT OS It is valid on all Windows OSs above the Windows 95 release. Using the basic runtime, you can use GCC to write console mode compliant American Standards Organization (ANSI) programs. You can use the C Runtime provided by Microsoft. ) extension, combined with the basic runtime, you can have full rights to use both CRT (C Runtime) and Windows API functions.

Use MinGW to statically cross-compile libcurl with zlib under Linux

libcurl is a cross-platform, easy-to-use, and powerful network library. Compiled binary packages are available in most Linux distributions, and Mac systems use them as a core component. But on the Windows platform, manual compilation is required, not to mention that some people with special mysophobia (such as me) hate the extra DLLs and have to statically link them. This article is a small summary of my two nights of tossing experience, explaining how to use MinGW to compile the libcurl static library for Windows under Linux.

STEP1 Install the MinGW compiler

I am not going to say more about this step. Most Linux distributions should have it in their warehouses. Taking my ArchLinux as an example, execute :

~# pacman -S mingw-w64

is enough. If you don't need cross-compilation and want to compile directly on Windows, please go to SourceForge to download the Windows version. Don't worry about whether w64 is the 64-bit version, it can compile both 32-bit and 64-bit programs. Let’s take my version as an example:

~# pacman -Ql mingw-w64-gcc| grep '/usr/bin/.*gcc$'
mingw-w64-gcc /usr/bin/i686-w64-mingw32-gcc
mingw-w64-gcc /usr/bin/x86_64-w64-mingw32-gcc

You can see that there are two gccs. The program compiled with i686-w64-mingw32-gcc is 32-bit, and x86_64-w64-mingw32-gcc is compiled into 64-bit version. Now, just write a Hello World (you can use my Hello World code ^_^), and then try to compile it:

i686-w64-mingw32-gcc hello_world.c -o hello_world.exe

Take it to the virtual machine or throw it into Wine. If it can run normally, So congratulations, the first step is completed.

STEP2 Download the source code

Very simple steps. If you can't figure it out, just go to the upper right corner.

  • LibCurl: The top Source Archives
  • zLib: Please download the Source Code
  • OpenSSL: Optional, do not compile if it is not necessary, it will greatly increase File size

put curl-7.35.0 and zlib-1.2.8 (and maybe openssl-1.0.1f ) put these folders in the same directory, and then proceed to the next step.

STEP3 Compile source code

First open the Makefile.gcc file under the zlib/win32 folder, and put PREFIX = This line is changed to the gcc prefix in STEP1. For me, it is PREFIX = i686-w64-mingw32-. Copy this file to the zlib folder, and then make -f Makefile.gcc under the zlib folder, you should be able to see libz.aThis file.

If you want to compile OpenSSL, then go to the openssl folder

$ ./Configure no-shared --cross-compile-prefix=i686-w64-mingw32- mingw
$ make

, remember to change the prefix. Generate libssl.a and libcrypto.a

make -f Makefile.m32 CFG=-zlib

或是

make -f Makefile.m32 CFG=-zlib-ssl

make到最后时会报个错,是因为文件没放对地方,手动挪一下即可

for x in vtls/openssl.o vtls/gtls.o vtls/vtls.o vtls/nss.o vtls/qssl.o vtls/polarssl.o vtls/polarssl_threadlock.o vtls/axtls.o vtls/cyassl.o vtls/curl_schannel.o vtls/curl_darwinssl.o vtls/gskit.o
do
mv `basename $x` vtls
done

然后再make一下,libcurl.a文件应该就出现了。
如果生成dll出错也不要紧,我们要的是.a文件

STEP4 测试

现在,你可以找一段libcurl的demo来测试了。注意要加上宏定义CURL_STATICLIB

i686-w64-mingw32-gcc -I. -L. -DCURL_STATICLIB curl_demo.c -lcurl -lz -lws2_32 -o curl_demo.exe
