PHP 8.1 Performance Benchmark

PHP 8.1 was officially released last week, and technology media Phoronix immediately released a performance benchmark report for PHP 8.1.

This test was conducted on an AMD EPYC 72F3 server running Ubuntu Linux. All tested versions were rebuilt on the same system with the same packages and the same build options.

The versions used for reference comparison include: PHP 8.1, PHP 8.0.13, PHP 7.4.26, PHP 7.3.33, PHP 7.0.33 and PHP 5.6.40. PHP 7.1/7.2 was excluded due to a segmentation fault when building and running in this stack.
