HomeOperation and MaintenanceApacheWhat does it mean to graduate from the Apache Foundation?

Since its establishment in 1999, the Apache Software Foundation has successfully established its own strong ecosystem. Many excellent open source projects have emerged in its community, and more and more domestic and foreign projects are coming to this international open source community for incubation.

What does it mean to graduate from the Apache Foundation?

# It is reported that all Apache projects currently need to be incubated by incubators and meet a series of quality requirements before they can graduate. Projects that graduate from the incubator will either become top-level projects independently or become sub-projects of other top-level projects. (Recommended learning: apache use)

The Apache Software Foundation announced that Apache Pulsar has successfully graduated from incubation and become a new top-level project of the foundation.

Pulsar is a distributed message publish/subscribe delivery platform designed for scalability and flexibility and ensuring no data loss. The project was open sourced by Yahoo in 2015 and submitted to the Apache Incubator in June 2017.

Pulsar’s original goal was to create a multi-tenant scalable messaging system, and as such, its unique architecture that separates the service area and storage layer has proven to be a key advantage. This two-tier architecture enables Pulsar to provide an extremely simplified approach to cluster operations, allowing operators to easily scale the cluster and replace failed nodes, or provide higher write and read availability.

The Apache Software Foundation announced that Apache Airflow has successfully graduated from incubation and become a new top-level project of the foundation.

Apache Airflow is a flexible, scalable workflow automation and scheduling system that can orchestrate and manage hundreds of petabytes of data flows. Projects can easily orchestrate complex computing workflows, and through intelligent scheduling, database and dependency management, error handling, and logging, Airflow can automate resource management from single servers to large-scale clusters.

The project is written in Python and is highly scalable, able to run tasks written in other languages, and allows integration with commonly used architectures and projects, such as AWS S3, Docker, Kubernetes, MySQL, Postgres, etc.

Apache Airflow was launched by Airbnb in 2014 and submitted to Apache for incubation in March 2016.

It is reported that Apache Airflow is currently used by more than 200 organizations, including Adobe, Airbnb, Astronomer, Etsy, Google, ING, Lyft, NYC City Planning, Paypal, Polidea, Qubole, Quizlet, Reddit, Reply, Solita, Square, Twitter, etc.
