Bootstrap 3 Released August 19, 2013

Today, on the second anniversary of releasing Bootstrap to the world, we are shipping Bootstrap 3.0. It had been a crazy long trip to say the least and we finally had it all down in the wild.

In what year was bootstrap3.0 launched?

Thanks to everyone who tested our RC (er, beta), reported bugs, and contributed code. We couldn't have done it without you. (Recommended Learning: Bootstrap Video Tutorial)

For those who haven’t been following closely, here’s a recap of all the biggest changes released in Bootstrap 3:

New Designs and optional themes! With v3, we've gone even. Don't call it a trend - it's all about customization, folks. Now that we've simplified the aesthetic, we thought it would be helpful to have an optional theme. To use it, check out the Bootstrap theme examples.

Mobile first, always responsive! Almost everything has been redesigned and rebuilt, starting with handheld devices and expanding.

New customizer! It has been redesigned and now compiles in the browser instead of Heroku, has better dependency support, and even has built-in error handling. Even better, we now save your customizations as anonymous gists for easy reuse, sharing, and modification.

Better box model default. All content in Bootstrap gets box-sizing: border-box simpler sizing options and an enhanced grid system.

Super powerful form system. With four levels of grid classes - mobile, tablet, desktop and large desktop - you can make some super crazy awesome layouts.

Rewritten JavaScript plugin. All events are now namespaced, conflict-free stuff works better, etc.

New Glyphicons icon font! Although they have been gone for a while, we have restored Glyphicons to the main repo. In 2.x they were images, but now they are in font format and contain 40 new glyphs.

Big improvements to the navigation bar. It's now always responsive and comes with some super handy and rearrangeable subcomponents.

Modal is more responsive. We've overhauled the modal code to make it more responsive on mobile devices. They now scroll the entire viewport instead of having a maximum height.

Added some components! New combinations are panel and list groups.

Deleted some components! We ditched the accordion (replacing it with collapsible panels), submenus, typewriters and a few smaller items. (Worth celebrating, as does adding new ones.)

More consistent base and size classes. Buttons, Tables, Forms, Alerts, etc. have been updated to make more consistent classes easier to customize and extend.

Improvement of documentation. We've added a lot of new documentation, not just for our components, but also for browser support (including gotchas and bugs), licensing FAQs, third-party support (and workarounds), accessibility, and more.

Removed Internet Explorer 7 and Firefox 3.6 support. For Internet Explorer 8, you need to include Respond.js for all media queries to work properly. You can read more about browser support in the documentation.
