php stat function is used to return information about files. Its syntax is fstat(file). The parameter file is required and refers to the file to be checked.

The stat() function returns information about the file.
Syntax
fstat(file)
Parameters
file Required. Specifies the documents to be checked.
Description
Get the statistical information of the file specified by file. If file is a symbolic link, the statistics are about the connected file itself, not the symbolic link.
If an error occurs, stat() returns false and issues a warning.
The returned array contains the statistical information of the file. The array has the cells listed below, and the array subscript starts from zero. In addition to numeric indexes, as of PHP 4.0.6 they are also accessible via associative indexes.

Tip: lstat() is similar to stat(), except that it returns the status of the symbolic connection.
