Automatic Snapshot FAQ
1. What are the details of the automatic snapshot function?
a. You can set the automatic snapshot policy yourself:
Automatic snapshots can be created for both system disks and data disks.
There are 24 hours every day that can be selected as snapshot creation time points, and repeating dates are optional 7 days a week.
Users can specify the storage time themselves (1-65536 days), or choose to retain it permanently.
You can query the number of disks associated with the automatic snapshot policy and its specific conditions.
b. The naming of automatic snapshots: auto2.0_yyyyMMdd_1, such as auto2.0_20140418_1
c. You can manage automatic snapshots by yourself (delete, create custom mirrors, create disks, etc.)
d. The user's snapshot quota has been upgraded to 64 snapshots per disk. The user's original snapshots are still retained and occupy the new snapshot quota.
2. Are there any conflicts between user-defined snapshots and automatic snapshots?
There is no conflict in use. It is the same as user snapshot. However, when an automatic snapshot is being performed on a certain disk, the user needs to wait for the automatic snapshot to complete before creating a custom snapshot.
3. Can I keep the automatic snapshots I want without the system deleting them?
You can choose to keep it permanently, but when the snapshot quota of a certain disk is full (reaching 64), the system will automatically delete the automatic snapshot with the earliest creation time.
4. If an automatic snapshot is referenced (the user creates a custom image or disk), will it cause the execution of the automatic snapshot policy to fail?
Won't.
5. If I don’t set anything, will the automatic snapshot start?
The current snapshot function has been upgraded to version 2.0, which provides a richer selection of snapshot strategies. Users need to set their own automatic snapshot strategies and associate related disks so that automatic snapshots can be executed normally.
6. Can automatic snapshots be deleted?
You can delete automatic snapshots by yourself, or when the snapshot quota of a certain disk is full (up to 64), the system will automatically delete the automatic snapshot with the earliest creation time.
7. Can I see when the automatic snapshot was created?
You can see the specific creation time of each snapshot in the snapshot list interface of the ECS console.
8. How do I distinguish which snapshots are automatic snapshots and user snapshots?
Distinguish automatic snapshots by name: auto2.0_yyyyMMdd_1, such as auto2.0_20140418_1
9. When replacing the system disk, after the cloud server ECS expires, or when the disk is manually released , will the automatic snapshot be released?
Automatic snapshot release behavior, you can find the corresponding disk in the ECS console > All disks, select to modify the disk properties to set, the default selection is automatic snapshot release with the disk, after selection, when the disk is manually released , when the disk is released with the instance or the system disk is replaced, the automatic snapshot of the disk will be automatically deleted. If you want to keep the snapshot, you can manually disable this option.
10. Will automatic snapshots that are not released with disk release or system disk replacement be retained forever?
Automatic snapshots that are not released with the disk and are released by replacing the system disk follow the storage period of the automatic snapshot policy and will be automatically released when they expire.
11. After the cloud server ECS expires or when the disk is manually released, will the manual snapshot be released?
No, manually created snapshots will be retained unless the user actively deletes them.
12. Can I individually specify certain disks to perform or cancel automatic snapshots?
Yes, you can directly "set automatic snapshot policy" for a single disk in "All Disks".
13. Does the cloud server ECS have automatic backup?
The ECS console provides automatic snapshot backup and user-defined snapshot backup, making it convenient for you to perform snapshot data backup and rollback operations.
