Parameters and Attributes

The following tag attributes and parameters are described HTML code created by the Publish command. You can refer to this list when writing your own HTML for displaying Flash content. Unless otherwise stated, all entries apply to both object tags and embed tags. Optional entries are also listed here. Internet Explorer recognizes the parameters for the object tag, and Netscape recognizes the parameters for the embed tag. Attributes can be used in both object and embed tags. When customizing a template, the template variables listed here can be substituted for the corresponding values. See Custom HTML Publish template.

Note: The properties and parameters listed in this section are intentionally shown in lowercase letters to comply with XHTML standards.

devicefont Attribute/Parameter

Value: true | false
Template variable: $DE
Description:
(optional) for unselected A static text object with a Device Font option that specifies whether device fonts are still used for drawing (if the required fonts are provided by the operating system).

src attribute

Value: movieName.swf
Template variable: $MO
Description: Specify the name of the SWF file to be loaded. Applies to embed only.

movie Parameters

Value: movieName.swf
Template variable: $MO
Description: Specify the name of the SWF file to be loaded. Applies to object only.

classid attribute

Value: clsid:D27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000
Description: Identifies the browser's ActiveX control. The value entered must be exactly as shown above. Applies to object only.

width attribute

Value: n or n%
Template variable: $WI
Description: Use pixel value or percentage value of the browser window Specifies the width of the application.

height attribute

Value: n or n%
Template variable: $HE
Description: In terms of pixel value or percentage value of the browser window Specifies the height of the application.

Note: Because Flash applications are scalable, their quality does not decrease when played at any size as long as the aspect ratio remains the same. (For example, the following sizes all have an aspect ratio of 4:3: 640 x 480 pixels, 320 x 240 pixels, and 240 x 180 pixels.)

codebase Properties

Value: active.macromedia.com/flash7/cabs/swflash.cab#version=7,0,0,0

Description: Identifies the location of the Flash Player ActiveX control so that when the control has not been installed, The browser can download it automatically. The value entered must be exactly as shown above. Applies to object only.

pluginspage Attribute

Value: www.macromedia.com/shockwave/download/index.cgi?P1_Prod_
Version=ShockwaveFlash
Description: Identifies Flash The location of the Player plug-in so that users can download it if it is not already installed. The value entered must be exactly as shown above. Applies only to embed .

swliveconnect attribute

Value: true | false
Description: (Optional) Specifies whether the browser should start Java when Flash Player is first loaded. If this property is omitted, the default value is false. If JavaScript and Flash are used simultaneously on the same page, Java must be running for the FSCommand() function to work. However, if you are running JavaScript solely for browser detection or for other purposes unrelated to the fscommand() action, you can prevent Java from starting by setting SWLIVECONNECT to false. When not using JavaScript and Flash together, you can also use The SWLIVECONNECT attribute is explicitly set to true, forcing Java to start. Starting Java can significantly increase the time required to start a SWF file, so this flag should be set to true only when necessary. Applies to embed only.

Use the fscommand() action to start Java from a stand-alone projection file.

play properties/parameters

Value: true | false
Template variable: $PL
Description: (Optional) Specify whether the application is browsing Playback starts as soon as it is loaded into the browser. If your Flash application is interactive, you can let the user start playback by clicking a button or performing some other task. In this case, setting the play property to false disables the application from automatically starting playback. If this property is omitted, the default value is true.

loop Properties/Parameters

Value: true | false
Template variable: $LO
Description: (Optional) Specifies where the Flash content should be before it arrives Whether to repeat playback infinitely or stop after the last frame. If this property is omitted, the default value is true.

quality attribute/parameter

Values: low | medium | high | autolow | autohigh | best
Template variables: $QU
Description: (Optional) Specifies the anti-aliasing level to use during application playback. Because anti-aliasing requires a faster processor to smooth each frame of the SWF file before rendering them to the viewer screen, you need to choose a value depending on whether you want to optimize for speed or appearance:

"Low" prioritizes playback speed over appearance and never uses anti-aliasing.

"Autolow" prioritizes speed, but will also improve appearance wherever possible. When playback begins, anti-aliasing is turned off. Flash Player turns on anti-aliasing if it detects that the processor can handle it.

"Autohigh" focuses on both playback speed and appearance at the beginning, but will sacrifice appearance to ensure playback speed when necessary. When playback starts, anti-aliasing is on. If the actual frame rate drops below the specified frame rate, anti-aliasing is turned off to increase playback speed. Use this setting to emulate the Anti-Aliasing command in Flash (View > Preview Mode > Anti-Aliasing).

Medium applies some anti-aliasing but does not smooth the bitmap. This setting produces a higher quality image than the Low setting, but lower quality than the High setting.

"High" prioritizes appearance over playback speed, which always applies anti-aliasing. If the SWF file does not contain animation, the bitmap is smoothed; if the SWF file contains animation, the bitmap is not smoothed.

"Best" provides the best display quality regardless of playback speed. All output is anti-aliased and all bitmaps are smoothed.

If the quality attribute is omitted, its default value is high.

bgcolor Attribute/Parameter

Value: #RRGGBB (hexadecimal RGB value)
Template variable: $BG
Description: (optional ) specifies the background color of the application. Use this property to override the background color setting specified in the Flash SWF file. This property does not affect the background color of the HTML page.

scale attribute/parameter

Value: showall | noborder | exactfit
Template variable: $SC
Description: (optional) when width and height When the value is a percentage, defines how the application is positioned within the browser window.

Showall (default) causes the entire Flash content to be displayed in the specified area without distortion, while maintaining its original aspect ratio. Borders may appear on the sides of the application.

"Noborder" scales the Flash content to fill the specified area without distortion. It keeps the application's original aspect ratio, but may cause some cropping.

"Exactfit" causes the entire Flash content to be displayed in the specified area, but does not attempt to maintain the original aspect ratio. Distortions may occur.

If this attribute is omitted (and the width and height values are percentages), its default value is showall.

align attribute

Value: Default | L | R | T | B
Template variable: $HA
Description: Specify object, embed and img The align value of the tag and determines how the Flash SWF file is positioned within the browser window.

"Default" causes the application to be centered within the browser window, and will crop the edges if the browser window is smaller than the application.

L, R, T, and B align the application along the left, right, top, and bottom edges of the browser window, respectively, cropping the remaining three sides as needed.

salign Parameter

Value: L | R | T | B | TL | TR | BL | BR
Template variable: $SA
Description: (Optional) Specifies the position of the scaled Flash SWF file within the area defined by the width and height settings. For more information about these conditions, see the scale attribute/parameter.

L, R, T, and B align the application along the left, right, top, and bottom edges of the browser window, respectively, cropping the remaining three sides as needed.

TL and TR align the application to the upper-left and upper-right corners of the browser window, respectively, cropping the bottom and remaining right or left edges as appropriate.

BL and BR align the application to the lower-left and lower-right corners of the browser window, respectively, cropping the top edge and remaining right or left edges as appropriate.

If this attribute is omitted, the Flash content will be displayed centered in the browser window.

base attribute

Value: Base directory or URL
Description: (Optional) Specifies the base used to parse all relative path statements in Flash SWF files Directory or URL. This property is useful if the SWF file is saved in a different directory than your other files.

menu Attributes/Parameters

Value: true | false
Template variable: $ME
Description: (Optional) Specify when the viewer is in the browser The type of menu that appears when you right-click (Windows) or Command-click (Macintosh) an application area.

"true" displays a full menu, allowing the user to enhance or control playback with various options.

"false" displays a menu containing only the "About Macromedia Flash Player 6" option and the "Settings" option.

If this attribute is omitted, the default value is true.

wmode Properties/Parameters

Value: Window | Opaque | Transparent
Template variable: $WM
Description: (optional) enables you to use Transparent Flash content, absolute positioning, and layered display capabilities in Internet Explorer 4.0. This tag/property is only valid on Windows with the Flash Player ActiveX control.

"Window" uses the movie's own rectangular window to play the application on the Web page. "Window" indicates that the Flash application has no interaction with the HTML layer and is always on top.

"Opaque" causes the application to hide everything behind it on the page.

"Transparent" allows the background of the HTML page to show through any transparent parts of the application, which may reduce animation performance.

Both "Opaque windowless" and "Transparent windowless" interact with HTML layers and allow the layer above the SWF file to shadow the application. The difference between the two options is that Transparent allows transparency, so if a portion of the SWF file is transparent, the HTML layer beneath the SWF file can show through that portion.

If this property is omitted, the default value is Window. Applies to object only.

allowscriptaccess Properties/Parameters

Values: always | never | samedomain
Description: Use allowscriptaccess to enable a Flash application to communicate with the HTML page that hosts it. This parameter is required because the fscommand() and getURL() operations can cause JavaScript to use the permissions of the HTML page, which may be different than the permissions of the Flash application. This has important implications for cross-domain security.

always allows script operations to be executed at any time.

never disables all script operations.

samedomain Allows scripting only if the Flash application is from the same domain as the HTML page.
