Welcome to the world of PHP and MySQL web development. This book introduces the essence of our practical experience using PHP and MySQL. PHP and MySQL are two of the most popular web development tools today.

Why should you study this book?
This book will introduce how to create interactive Web sites, from the simplest order forms to complex secure e-commerce sites. Moreover, readers will also learn how to implement it using open source technologies.
The target readers of this book are readers who already know the basic knowledge of HTML and have used some modern programming languages to develop programs before. However, this does not require readers to have engaged in Internet programming or used relational databases. If you are an entry-level programmer, you will find this book still very useful, but it may take you longer to absorb and digest it. We try not to miss any basic concepts, but we introduce these basic concepts relatively briefly. Typical readers of this book are people who want to master PHP and MySQL and are committed to creating large-scale or e-commerce type Web sites. Some readers may have already used another web development language; if so, it will be easier to grasp the content of this book.
We wrote the first edition of this book because we were tired of looking for books that were, at best, basic references to PHP functions. Those books are useful, but they won't help you when your boss or client says, "Go ahead and build me a shopping cart." We have tried to make every example in this book practical. Much of the sample code can be used directly on the Web site, and most of the code can be used directly with minor modifications.

What knowledge will you learn by using this book?
After studying this book, readers will be able to create practical dynamic Web sites. If you've created a Web site using plain HTML, you'll be aware of the limitations of this approach. The static content of a pure HTML website can only be static. Its content will not change unless it is specifically updated. Users are also unable to interact with the site in any form.
Using a programming language (e.g., PHP) and a database (e.g., MySQL), you can create dynamic sites: you can customize your site and include real-time information in it.
In this book, we spend a lot of effort introducing practical applications. We start with a simple online ordering system and then cover the different parts of PHP and MySQL.
We will discuss the e-commerce and security aspects associated with creating a functional Web site and introduce how to implement these aspects using PHP and MySQL.
In the final part of the book, we will introduce how to implement actual projects and work with readers to design, plan and build user authentication and personalization settings, shopping carts, content management systems, web-based emails, and mailing lists Manager, Web forum, PDF document generation, using XML and SOAP to connect to Web services and other projects.
These projects can be used directly, or can be modified to meet the actual needs of readers. We chose these projects because we believe these 8 projects are the most common ones used by programmers when creating web-based applications. If your needs are different, this book can help you achieve your goals.

What is PHP
PHP is a server-side scripting language that is specifically designed for the Web. In an HTML page, you can embed PHP code that is executed every time the page is accessed. The PHP code will be interpreted in the web server and generate HTML or other output seen by the visitor.
PHP appeared in 1994 and was initially the work of Rasmus Lerdorf. Other geniuses improved the language, and it went through four very important rewrites before becoming the widely used, mature PHP we see today. As of August 2004, PHP has been installed on more than 17 million website domains around the world, and this number continues to grow rapidly. visit.
