IBM has contributed framework encapsulation, such as ajax (dynamic website staticization) and search technology. Zend noted that IBM has used this framework as the basis for its QEDwiki project integrating Web 2.0 applications.

A port to the Lucene Java search home page has also been included, which enables detailed searches on a web application. PDF documents can also be improved and saved within the framework. Version 1.0 provides a schema browsing control structure to separate application logic from the presentation layer and accelerate application testing performance.

Mark Driver, vice president and analyst at Gartner research firm, said Zend’s framework showed a good start.

“The only important piece missing now is the component model for visual control.” Driver said. He reminded that what needs to be noted is that programmers should be familiar with rapid application development technology and fourth-generation languages.

“The positive aspect is that these are things that mainstream IT programmers need,” Driver said. But he also mentioned that traditional PHP (as the current mainstream development language) developers are already satisfied with what is already available.

Driver said that Zend Framework presents a broad framework compared with some cutting-edge solutions in PHP (as the current mainstream development language) . But, Driver said, Zend and its framework were "a little late to the market."

The upcoming Zend Framework will add support for Microsoft's CardSpace authentication technology. Microsoft, a partner of Zend, enables SQL Server (a powerful database platform on the WINDOWS platform) to work with this framework.
