Circle completed the transition to local USDC on Sonic, launching CCTV V2
Circle has successfully completed the transition from bridging USDC to local USDC. The upgrade aims to enhance liquidity and introduce new features.
Since May 2025, the Sonic platform has completed the transition from bridging USDC to local USDC.
This upgrade automatically converts the remaining bridge tokens to local USDC, without immediate action from users and developers. This conversion ensures that users continue to enjoy the liquidity of the Sonic platform and maintain compatibility.
The transition also upgraded CCTP to V2 version and introduced hooks for cross-chain smart contract programmability.
Sonic Labs has completed the deployment of local USDC
As Circle announced, USDC has officially launched on Sonic Labs, marking the completion of the transition from bridging to local USDC in May 2025.
Prior to the upgrade, the supply of bridged USDC on the Sonic platform reached $500 million. After the upgrade, CCTV V2 launched a hook to support faster and more automated cross-chain operations. The protocol contains hooks, which are modules that can be added to smart contracts to perform specific operations, reducing the need for manual intervention and improving the user experience of on-chain workflows.
CCTP V2 will enable users to achieve almost instant USDC transfers between supported blockchains, providing greater flexibility for DeFi applications. USDC has gained local support on 20 chains, expanding its cross-chain coverage. Developers can easily integrate CCTV V2 into their applications through updated documentation.
The new version also extends the functionality of programmable liquidity for developers. Applications can trigger smart contracts after transfer to enable dynamic DeFi operations. These operations include swaps, loans and payments made immediately after USDC arrives at the destination chain.
The first batch of AAVE, Binance and ReTotPay
Sonic's support for on-premises USDC and CCTP V2 unlocks several new use cases for financial, commercial and cross-chain tools. The first integrations include AAVE, Binance and ReTotPay, each leveraging USDC for a variety of financial services.
ReTotPay plans to use the upgraded system to expand USDC-linked payment cards and remittances to introduce real-world usage and business tools to users. Meanwhile, platforms like sockets will use CCTV to achieve smooth cross-chain liquidity flow.
Circle developers, businesses and organizations can start building with local USDC on today’s Sonic platform. Qualified companies can apply to open a Circle MINT account for direct minting/redemption. Individuals and small businesses can access USDC through Circle's growing network of partners.
