How to upgrade weapons in Clair Obscur Expedition 33
You need to speak with The Curator at Camp to upgrade weapons in Clair Obscur Expedition 33. The Curator unlocks as part of the story, so you don't have to worry about missing them!
We've got information on how to unlock The Curator below, but for now, let's stick with the upgrade process.
When you're ready to upgrade weapons, set up a Camp from The Continent world map, then find The Curator in Camp, and select the 'Upgrade Weapons' option. From here, you can tab between your party members and select what weapon you'd like to upgrade.
Upgrading any type of weapon requires Chroma Catalyst of varying rarities. The higher a weapon's level, the rarer the Chroma Catalyst type it takes to upgrade it. For example, you only need standard Chroma Catalysts to upgrade a weapon up to Level 3, but you need Polished Chroma Catalysts to upgrade weapons up to Level 9.
Keep in mind that you're only upgrading a weapon one level at a time. 'Up to Level 9' means you can only use that Chroma Catalyst type until a weapon reaches Level 9, not that it immediately jumps the weapon to Level 9. So it can take quite a few resources to fully invest in a single weapon.
You get Chroma Catalysts by picking up items in the environment, defeating bosses, and searching shops.
We recommend upgrading your favourite weapons when you can, as you unlock additional bonuses for equipping a weapon when you upgrade it to Level 4, 10, and 20 (which you can preview in advance, to see if it's worth the investment). You also upgrade a weapon's bonus Attribute boosts, like Agility and Luck, when you upgrade it. The higher the grade, the bigger the stat boost.
For an even bigger boost, make sure to invest in the same Attribute Points for your character. If you find a new favourite weapon that doesn't align with your current Attribute Points, you can use a Recoat at Expedition Flag rest points to respec a character.
How to unlock The Curator in Clair Obscur Expedition 33
While you find The Curator in The Manor part of the Flying Waters area while searching for Maelle, you don't actually get to use their services until your return to Camp again. This means that you unlock The Curator, and the ability to upgrade your weapons, after the Goblu boss fight at the end of The Flying Waters area.
Without spoiling anything major, you'll soon find yourself back at Camp after defeating Goblu, where you can finally speak with The Curator and use your Chroma Catalysts to upgrade weapons.
Good luck on the rest of your journey across The Continent!
