How to beat Évêque in Clair Obscur Expedition 33

You have to fight Évêque at the end of the Spring Meadows area to continue the main story of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33.

Évêque is the first main boss you come across in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, and it's thankfully a lot easier to defeat than the optional Chromatic Lancelier boss you might have encountered in the Spring Meadows!

It can still be a tough fight you don't come prepared, so to help you out, we've explained how to beat Évêque in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 below, how to prepare for Évêque, and all of the Évêque rewards you get in the battle loot at the end.

How to prepare for Évêque

It's a good idea to sort your party's Pictos and Lumina loadout before starting the battle with Évêque! Here's what Pictos and Lumina we had equipped on Gustave and Lune when we defeated Évêque:

Gustav

• 'Burning Shots' Pictos - 20% chance to Burn on Free Aim shot.
• 'Dead Energy II' Lumina - 3 AP on killing an enemy.
• 'Dodger' Lumina - Gain 1 AP on Perfect Dodge. Once per turn.

Lune

• 'Critical Burn' Pictos - 25% increased Critical Chance on Burning enemies.
• 'Dodger' Pictos - Gain 1 AP on Perfect Dodge. Once per turn.
• 'Dead Energy II' Pictos - 3 AP on killing an enemy.
• 'Burning Shots' Lumina - 20% chance to Burn on Free Aim shot.

Although not essential, we also recommend equipping Lune's 'Earth Rising' skill if you can, as it's good for dishing out AOE (area of effect) damage when Évêque summons its minions.

How to beat Évêque in Clair Obscur Expedition 33

For an edge in battle, here's some tips on how to beat Évêque in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33:

• Évêque is weak to Ice-type attacks, such as Lune's 'Ice Lance' skill.
• Use Free Aim ranged attacks to get rid of Évêque's shields. One hit dispels one shield. So don't use your most powerful attacks, or target the boss' weak point, until all of its shields are gone.
• Évêque's weak point is its blue-coloured glowing orb. When its glowing, hit it with a Free Aim ranged attack (only when Évêque has no shields) to take off a huge chunk of health.
• Use AOE attacks, such as Lune's 'Earth Rising' skill, when Évêque summons minions. You can also use Free Aim ranged attacks on the minions' green-coloured orb weak spots to take off huge chunks of their health.



• When Évêque is 'Enraged' it gains a lot of shields. We highly recommend using your Free Aim ranged attacks to take these shields off as soon as possible.
• The 'casts a spell' attacks from both Évêque and its minions are easy to parry or dodge, as there's a regular one-two-three rhythm that you can see and hear as it comes towards your character. You can dodge on 'three' to build AP if you have the 'Dodger' Pictos/Lumina equipped, or parry on 'three' to launch a counterattack.



• Évêque takes two turns to 'charge up' instead of attacking you, then unleashes its 'full power' on its next turn. This attack isn't as bad as it sounds, as you can easily dodge or parry the multiple attacks Évêque sends your way (they're also in a one-two-three rhythm). Évêque is also wide open for attack while it's charging up, as it won't target your party during these turns.
• We recommend using Gustave's AP to Free Aim range attack, to save Lune's AP for her Ice, AOE, and Fire attacks. If not (or you find you have spare AP), using 'Lumière Assault' and 'Overcharge' is a dependable offensive strategy for Gustave.
• Apply Burn early, so Évêque takes additional damage as soon as possible. Lune's 'Immolation' skill is a good way to do this, as is her basic attack, if you have a weapon that deals Fire damage equipped. Remember that Burn can stack! The more Burn stacks an enemy has, the more damage they take.

• 864 Chroma
