New York Times Strands game tips and answers (May 6, 2025)
Hello everyone! Here are the tips, full letter words and answers for The New York Times Strands game Tuesday, May 6.
Strands gameplay
The New York Times Strands puzzle game is a variant of the classic text search game. You can find it on the New York Times website and the New York Times game app, along with games like Wordle and Connections (we also cover these games in Forbes Gaming's daily guide).
There will be new Strands games every day. The game will provide a letter grid of six rows and eight columns. The goal is to find a set of words that have common ground and you will get a clue about the topic. When you find a topic word, it will be highlighted in blue.
You also need to find a special word called the full letter word. This will tell you what these words have in common. The full letter word connects at least both sides of the board, but it may not start or end there. Although the subject word will not be a proper noun, a full letter word can be a proper noun. When you find the full letter word, it will be highlighted in yellow.
Each letter is used only once in a subject and full letter words. You can connect letters vertically, horizontally, and diagonally, and you can change directions in the middle of the word. If you are playing games on the touch screen, double-click the last letter to submit your guess.
If you find three valid words with at least four letters (not part of the subject), you will unlock the prompt button. Clicking this button will highlight the letters that make up one of the topic words.
Note: You need to be vigilant. Sometimes you need to fill in the missing words in the phrase. On other days, the game may revolve around synonyms or homophones. The difficulty changes every day, and the creators of puzzle games sometimes try to surprise you.

The finished grid looks like this...
This time I immediately found the full alphabet word. This is the first time I have done it in a while! I gradually completed it from there but had difficulty reaching the last word in the upper left corner.
What I'm confused about is that "eardrop" doesn't work and nothing else makes sense for a while. But I realized I was missing "t" (I didn't see it at all for a while!) and eventually found TEARDROP to do it.
I didn't use any hints, the full letter word is the first topic word I found.
See you tomorrow, more Strands fun!
