New donations supporting Langley Memorial Hospital are almost one-third of its $1 million target
The charity party hosted by the Langley Community Health and Hospital Foundation raised $331,000 to establish the Guru Nanak Endowment Fund.
The donation raised by the "Heart of Giving" charity party for Langley Memorial Hospital has reached one-third of its million-dollar target.
On April 4, more than 250 guests attended the annual fundraising event at the Cloverdale Mirage Ballroom. Activities include raffle draws, silent auctions, live auctions and fundraising games, with 50/50 draws continuing until May 2.
Since 2019, the Heart of Giving charity party has brought together donors every year to celebrate the community and raise donations, said Heather Scott, executive director of the Langley Community Health and Hospital Foundation.
“It is exciting to witness donors show leadership through philanthropy to create a positive atmosphere for health care in the future,” she said. “The Guru Nanak Endowment Fund will drive compassion and excellence in local health care and leave a valuable legacy.”
The sixth annual party marks the official launch of the endowment. The fund will serve as a permanent investment to generate stable annual revenues to meet the urgent needs of hospitals in equipment, projects and services.
The fund is inspired by the spiritual leadership legacy of Guru Nanak and is built on the philanthropic tradition of the South Asian community. The fund aims to reach $1 million in five years to generate sustained revenue that will have a profound impact on health care for future generations.
To celebrate the establishment of the new endowment, 13 major donors donated $13,013 each to receive limited edition commemorative coins, in honor of their status as founding donors of the Guru Nanak Endowment.
Climate change advocate and former Canadian fundraising Miss Suhana Gill serves as the party host. The exciting performances of Chandni Group and the Royal Punjab Dance Group ignited the atmosphere, while traditional music by Sitarist Anju Bedi adds melodious background music to the party.
Party Chairman Bob Sangha said that as the population grows, Langley’s healthcare needs will change dramatically, and Langley Memorial Hospital’s medical team needs adequate resources to address future challenges. He was very excited about the success of the party.
“The Guru Nanak Endowment represents our community’s enduring commitment to health care excellence,” he said. “The generous donation we witness tonight shows that when we stand united in the ‘Seva’ spirit (selfless service and humility of Sikhism), a valuable legacy that respects cultural values and serves Langley.”
Last year, the party raised $260,000 to purchase equipment to improve the prognosis of patients after surgery. Since its inception, the donor community of “Give Hearts” charity party has raised $1.5 million and supported projects such as the construction of the Martini Family Emergency Center of Langley Memorial Hospital, the purchase of auxiliary mobility tools for elderly patients, the provision of professional care for newborns, and the establishment of peaceful shelters for hospital employees and their families.
The Langley Community Health and Hospital Foundation (formerly the Langley Memorial Hospital Foundation) works with donors to fund the hospital’s much-needed equipment, modernize the hospital through a capital project (most recently the new emergency center), and support the intervention and prevention programs of Langley Memorial Hospital and the community to improve the physical and mental health of Langley residents. The foundation was established in 1985.
Every year, the Langley Hospital team proposes funding priorities to the Give Heart Charity Gala Committee to decide how to allocate donations to maximize community health care.
