When branch manager Randy Lima heard that the coin machine at the Rockland Trust Bank in Somerset wasn't working properly

A Rockland Trust branch manager in Massachusetts had an unusual discovery when opening a coin machine at the bank.

Branch manager Randy Lima said he noticed the machine wasn’t working properly on July 27. Expecting to find gum or candy wrappers, he was surprised to see a 24 Karat gold wedding band.

“I couldn’t believe it. It’s a valuable piece of jewelry and it’s certainly irreplaceable,” Lima said.

The wedding band is believed to be worth an estimated $14,000.

Lima immediately notified the Somerset Police Department about the unusual discovery.

“We want to find the owner of this ring. I’m sure he will be extremely happy and so will his wife.”

Lt. Matthew Reis told 12 News the wedding ring is now at the Somerset Police Department.

“We’ve received many, many calls on it. If I had to guess, around 50 calls or so. We are seeing if the owner can identify the date inscribed on the inside of the ring.”

But even if caller provides them with the right date, Reis said additional questions will be asked to make sure it ends up in the hands of its rightful owner.

Reis said the wedding ring will be sold if no one claims it within a year.

“I would hate to auction off something like this. I would really like to find the owner, obviously for sentimental reasons.”

The ring has yet to be claimed, according to Reis. Those who believe the ring belongs to them are urged to contact the Somerset Police Department by calling (508) 679-2138 and asking for Reis or Lt. Kevin Borges.
