Forbes NYT Today’s “Strands” Tips: Wednesday April 2 Tips by Paul Tassi Today’s Strands puzzle is interesting and based on a very specific area of interest, if you can figure out what it is, it’s pangram.
How to play Strands
The New York Times' Strands puzzle is an interpretation of the classic text search game. It is currently in beta, which means it will only continue if there are enough people playing every day.
There will be a new Strands game every day. The game will present you with a grid of letters of six rows and eight columns. The goal is to find a set of words that have common ground and you will get a clue about the topic. When you find a topic word, it will be highlighted in blue.
You also need to find a special word called pangram. It tells you what these words have in common. The pangram connects the sides of the board. Although the subject word will not be a proper noun, pangram can be a proper noun. When you find the pangram, it will be highlighted in yellow.
Each letter is used only once in a topic word and in a pangram. You can connect letters vertically, horizontally and diagonally, and you can change directions in the middle of the word. If you are playing the game on the touch screen, double-click the last letter to submit your guess.
If you find three valid words with at least four letters that are not part of the topic, you will unlock the Prompt button. Clicking on it will highlight the letters that make up one of the topic words.
Note: You need to be vigilant. Sometimes you need to fill in the missing words in the phrase. On other days, the game may revolve around synonyms or homophones. The difficulty will change every day, and puzzle creators sometimes try to surprise you.
What is the Strands prompt today?
We will start with the official prompts and then continue with my own prompts to make things clearer. The official tips are:
Get the bug
My tip is:
____ Bug
What is the answer to Strands today?
Scroll slowly, because the answer starts here. We will start with pangram first and then continue with the full list of answers. Pangram is:
ENTOMOLOGY
You can find it on the board:
The answer is:
- LIGHTNING
- STINK
- LADY
- POTATO
- ASSASSIN
- DOODLE
There are a lot of different bugs to choose from, and while some may be obvious, I do have some that I didn’t immediately think of, like the Assassin Worm, I forgot that it exists, and a graffiti bug…it’s a real bug, right? It must be. Anyway, it's a little tricky, but spelling entomology is probably the hardest part.
