Assassin's Creed Shadows: Mastering Your Hideout for Enhanced Gameplay
Assassin's Creed Shadows presents a significant gameplay challenge with its resource-intensive mechanics. Upgrading gear and exploring the map require substantial resource farming. Fortunately, the strategically important hideout significantly eases this grind.
The hideout allows construction and upgrade of various buildings impacting gameplay. Upgrading these structures enhances their benefits and increases your hideout's overall level.
Accessing the hideout is straightforward; it's unlocked naturally during the game's extended prologue (expect to spend the first few hours here). After meeting Tomiko, she'll offer her homestead as your operational base in the hunt for the Shinbakufu. This unlocks the hideout and introduces its mechanics. The hideout subsequently appears on your map as a fast travel point within the Izumi Settsu province. Regular visits are recommended for hideout and gear upgrades.
Building and upgrading are initiated either from the central hideout area (using the "Improve Hideout" buttons) or via the Hiroma building's designated desk. The build menu categorizes rooms into types. Six main rooms provide essential gameplay buffs, with additional themed rooms available from various merchants. Construction and upgrades require crops, wood, and minerals, primarily obtained by raiding hostile zones and marking stockpiles for your scouts.
Hiroma and Stables are initially available. A Kakurega can be built with sufficient resources. The Study, Forge, and Dojo require story progression, a blacksmith, and recruiting an ally, respectively.
Room Effects:
Room Type | Name | Effect |
---|---|---|
Main Rooms | Stables | Reveals stockpiles during raids; two scouts needed to mark stockpiles. |
Kakurega | Adds Kakurega fast travel points across Japan (indicated by scout icons). | |
Study | Increases the number of available scouts per season. | |
Forge | Upgrades Naoe and Yasuke's gear to match your level. | |
Dojo | Manages and upgrades allies and their abilities. | |
Themed Rooms | Tera | 10% increased experience from all sources. |
Jinja | Extends shrine boon duration by 15 minutes. | |
Nando | Reduces Kakurega scout purchase cost by 30%. | |
Zashiki | Increases healing from rations. | |
Tea Room | Increases healing from rations. |
Beyond main rooms, themed rooms offer customizable décor. The build menu includes tabs for paths, decorations, trees, and pets acquired through gameplay. Pets (dogs, cats, etc.) can be placed in the hideout. Tsuki-maru, a dog, is unlocked via the "Thrown to the Dogs" side quest.
Main rooms (excluding Hiroma) upgrade to blue rarity (two upgrades). Upgrades significantly increase resource costs, necessitating prioritization:
Upgrade Priority | Building Name | Effect |
---|---|---|
1 | Stables (1st) | Enables stockpile marking with one scout, doubling resource gain. |
2 | Forge (1st) | Upgrades gear to level 40; allows non-legendary engravings. |
3 | Study (1st) | Adds an additional scout slot. |
4 | Dojo (1st) | Enables two ally ability slots simultaneously. |
5 | Forge (2nd) | Upgrades gear to level 60; allows legendary engravings. |
6 | Stables (2nd) | 20% increased resources from stockpiles. |
7 | Study (2nd) | Adds an additional scout slot; reduces quest search zone by 60%. |
8 | Kakurega (1st) | Accesses provincial rumors in Kakurega; removes "wanted" status using two scouts. |
9 | Dojo (2nd) | Unlocks an additional ability per ally (costs Mon). |
10 | Kakurega (2nd) | Adds more Kakurega locations; reduces unlock cost. |
The hideout level (top-left in the build menu) increases with room construction/upgrades. Each level unlocks gameplay benefits:
These upgrades significantly improve late-game efficiency.
