For those who feel that Kingdom Comes: Redemption 2 is too easy (a debatable point), Warhorse Studios has launched "Hardcore Mode", an upcoming free update designed to make Henry's survival even harder. Say goodbye to the quick trip, no longer have player marks on the map, and negative traits are forced to be added - because survival in medieval Bohemia was painful enough.

Challenges in hardcore mode

Hardcore mode removes most UI elements, forcing players to rely on memory rather than map markers to explore the world. The compass no longer shows orientation, and fast travel is completely disabled, which means every journey must be done on foot or on horseback, requiring real effort.

Worse, players must choose three permanent negative traits at the start of hardcore mode. These traits will change the gameplay in cruel and unusual ways, ensuring that every decision – whether it’s fighting, eating or simply surviving – will bring extra difficulty.

Negative traits of hardcore mode

Warhorse Studio has announced ten negative traits, players must choose at least three to activate hardcore mode. Some highlights include:

• Doomsday – Henry can carry fewer items and may accidentally damage the back when picking herbs (nature is dangerous).
• Sleepwalking – Henry may sleepwalking into the woods because clearly life is not complicated enough.
• Hungry Henry – Food can only supplement Henry’s hunger value by 20%, and hunger will reduce his eloquence, charm and intimidation.
• Sweat – Henry is easier to get dirty, smells worse, and perfume is of no help. Stealing becomes even more difficult.
• Shy – Henry is too shy to ask for directions and can’t get full service in the bathhouse. (Medieval Introvert Mode Activated.)
• The face of slapping – the enemy never surrenders, and it is even more dangerous to encounter events on the road (maybe deserve it).
• Dangerous Person – Being marked as a criminal is permanent and a second serious crime can lead to execution.

Other traits include less loot from animals, more movement sound, slower experience points acquisition, and guards punish you more severely - because obviously, they aren't strict enough.

Hardcore mode release date

Warhorse Studios has confirmed that the hardcore mode will be released in March with the Barber Update, which will eventually allow players to change Henry's hair and beard style. So, at least Henry can stay refreshed while suffering.

Is the hardcore mode suitable for you?

Hardcore mode is not suitable for the faint of heart. If you like to struggle with getting lost, being ambushed by combative enemies, and being permanently marked as a criminal, this mode will satisfy you. If you prefer convenience and sanity, maybe sticking to standard games is better.
