Following the assassination of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorist Abu Qatal in Pakistan, foreign affairs experts have suggested that Hafiz Saeed, the mastermind behind the 26/11 Mumbai attacks, might face a “similar fate” soon.

Speaking with ANI, Robinder Sachdeva said that Abu Qatal's killing indicates that those tracking LeT founder Hafiz Saeed and other terrorists are closing in.

"This was said to be the close aide of Hafiz Seedi, which means those who are tracking them have reached quite close. It is said that those who live by the sword die by the sword, and he might as well have to face a similar fate. He was also involved in a lot of attacks in Kashmir, Rajouri, Poonch, PoK," he said.

He further speculated that Saeed might have tightened his security following his nephew's assassination. "Now, he might take the next step to increase his security and ask for help from the Pakistani army, though they are already doing that to protect him, and no one can go to his house or anything. Also, one cannot say who did this incident but it could also have been possibly done by Pakistani authorities to defame India," he added.

Meanwhile, commenting on reports of another person being injured in the attack, Major General Dhruv C Katoch (Retd.) suggested that it could be Hafiz Seedi himself.

"There was another person who got injured and has been admitted to the Pakistan military hospital, and this has created a buzz since they are very tight-lipped about the identity of the person, and some emerging reports suggest it is Hafiz Seedi himself," he told ANI.

He went on to note that no terrorist is truly safe in Pakistan, even with the Army's protection and that they will eventually be “hunted down.”

"I don't think it matters whether it is Seedi or not, the important point is that he has not been able to sleep comfortably at night, he is constantly looking over his shoulder since he is on the run and on the target list, no terrorist in Pakistan is safe despite the fact that the Pakistani army is giving him all the security, they can't go out of their house or anything, they are practically prisoners in their own house, they can't move about freely, they have to take the army's escort to move out of the house and they are not paid any salary by the Pakistani government," he said.

"So in essence, they are not enjoying any sort of life, they are just surviving and they know that they will be hunted down, they can't go to the bank, they can't do anything, they are just surviving in their own house with the fear that they will be liquidated or hunted down by some other agency or some other group. So the broader message going out is that they are not safe despite the security and they will be hunted down," he concluded.

LeT terrorist, who was charge-sheeted by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in connection with the January 2023 Rajouri attacks, was shot dead in Pakistan on Saturday after an assailant opened fire on his vehicle on the Mangla-Jhelum Road, local media reported on Sunday. An armed guard of Qatal was also killed in the attack.

Qatal was the nephew of Hafiz Saeed, the founder of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and the mastermind behind the 26/11 Mumbai attacks. Saeed is wanted in India for numerous rerror-related cases.

The incident took place on Saturday night, as reported by an Islamabad-based outlet, The News International. According to the report, the assailants sprayed bullets at Qatal's vehicle, killing him and one of his armed guards instantly.

The bodies of Qatal and his guard were later shifted to a nearby hospital. Another person, who was reportedly injured in the incident, was also admitted to the military hospital in Rawalpindi, the outlet added.

The report further said that police and intelligence officials have cordoned off the area and launched an investigation to identify and apprehend the attackers.

Qatal was among the seven LeT terrorists who were charge-sheeted by the NIA in December 2023 in connection with the January 2023 Rajouri attacks, in which four members of a family, including a minor girl, were killed by terrorists in two separate incidents in the same village.

The NIA had said that the two terror attacks were carried out by LeT terrorists who had crossed over from Pakistan and were planning to carry out more attacks in Jammu and Kashmir.

In its charge sheet filed in a special NIA court in Jammu, the agency had said that the first incident took place on January 1, when terrorists barged into the house of Sameer Benazir,
