CSS-Tricks Chronicle XLI

This month's update covers recent podcast appearances, CodePen developments, ShopTalk milestones, a Serverless microsite refresh, and the current state of conferences.

I recently appeared on Episode 33 of That Tech Show, discussing various topics with Chris Addams and Samuel Gregory, including the ongoing relevance of CSS.

CodePen Updates

My focus remains primarily on CodePen. We're currently engrossed in a significant, long-term project to enhance CodePen's future capabilities. This focused effort means fewer public releases and less frequent discussion on CodePen Radio.

However, recent CodePen Radio episodes have featured engaging conversations with community members such as Cassie Evans, George Francis, Lynn Fisher, and Aaron Iker, with more interviews planned. November 2021 marked our highest-ever participation in CodePen Challenges, demonstrating continued community engagement.

ShopTalk Show News

ShopTalk Show is nearing its 500th episode, expected early next year. We've maintained a consistent weekly release schedule. Recent highlights include episodes 487, 491, and 485, covering topics ranging from image handling to CMS selection.

A significant development is the launch of ShopTalk Show's video episodes, available on YouTube. Recent video favorites include "A Definitely Real-Life Front-Interview Experience," "Details Elements Obviously Need a Pizza Arrow," and "Hello Worldin’ Some Web Component Libraries." Subscribe to our YouTube channel for updates.

Serverless Microsite Revamp

The "Power of Serverless for Front-End Developers" microsite has been rewritten from Gatsby to Astro. This refresh improved site maintainability and allowed me to familiarize myself with Astro. NetlifyCMS has been temporarily removed due to time constraints, but contributions are welcome via the project's repository. Content additions (services within existing categories) can be submitted as pull requests, including accompanying logo images. The possibility of adding a site-based form for pull requests is also under consideration.

Conference Circuit

The conferences microsite currently lists a limited number of events. I believe the conference landscape is still recovering. Contributions to the site are welcomed via pull requests or email. While I don't have any immediate conference plans, I'm working on a new presentation deck, rekindling my enthusiasm for conference speaking.
