Fishing has existed in many of the Monster Hunter games, though Monster Hunter Wilds have turned it into an involved process. No more flinging your rod aimlessly and landing a fish. You have to actually pay attention now, use the right bait, and most importantly, be patient. But sometimes you still need a little guidance.

Monster Hunter Wilds: Every Fish And How To Catch Them

With so many fish to find, and five different regions with three different weather conditions each, it can be hard to track down every fish, especially when you don't actually even know how many there are. Well have no fears, here is where to find every single fish there is in the game, and what each of them offers you.

How Does Fishing Work?

In Monster Hunter Wilds, you have to actually cast your rod into an area with fish if you want any hope of catching them. As such, you can cast your rod literally wherever, rather than only in designated fishing spots. This gives you a lot of fishing freedom, but also means you have to actuyally learn where the fish are located.

The vast majority of fish can be found in the Scarlet Forest, especially around Areas 12, 13, and 17. The Plenty is also the best weather to go fishing in as most fish go into hiding during the Inclemency and are more limited during the Fallow. This is true no matter what, so if you're looking for fish, do it during the Plenty.

Fishing itself is a simple act. You take out your rod, equip your bait (most of which come from Kanya's fishing quests), and cast. Once a fish bites, you just press the same button you cast the rod with to reel them in. Nice and easy. This process is a bit different for big fish, or Whoppers, as you must manually follow the feel until they're tired, and then reel them in bit-by-bit as well.

You can also catch fish with your Capture Net if you'd like for all the same rewards, though this does not work on Whoppers. You gotta fish those ones up no matter what.

How Many Fish Are There?

Of course, the game doesn't actually tell you how many fish there are. So really, you'd have no way of knowing unless you looked it up directly, and that's probably why you're here right now. And though there are quite a few fish, this is Monster Hunter, not Fish Hunter.

In total, there are 20 fish to catch, with the vast majority of them able to be found in the Scarlet Forest. For the more expensive fish, like Goldenfish, these are found in caves regardless of the weather or time-of-day. For all other fish, you are best to go fishing in the morning or daytime, with most fish disappearing during the evening and night, with few exceptions.

Escunite, for example, can appear at night around Area 17 in the Scarlet Forest, one of the few areas they appear outside of caves. The Goliath Squid on the other hand only appears at night. Make sure to keep the time-of-day in mind when going fishing.

Every Fish And Where To Catch Them

So, 20 fish. The game directs you towards every monster you can hunt with few exceptions, but fish are a much more mysterious beast. You have to go out of your way to find them. The materials they drop are great for crafting and selling, but you're mostly in this for the sheer joy of fishing. And here's where you can find every single fish in the game.
