IKEA is about to launch a temperature and humidity sensor that supports the Matter-over-Thread protocol, and is compatible with HomeKit without the need to purchase an IKEA hub.
According to the latest FCC regulatory documents, IKEA plans to launch a temperature and humidity sensor called Timmerflotte, which will support the Matter-over-Thread connection standard. This means that unlike previous smart home products that rely on Wi-Fi or Zigbee protocols and owned hubs, this new sensor works with any Matter-compatible smart home hub, including HomeKit without the IKEA hub.
While IKEA has released HomeKit-compatible sensors since 2018, its smart home products rely mainly on Wi-Fi or Zigbee protocols to communicate with its own hubs. According to HomeKit News, IKEA plans to use the Matter-over-Thread protocol to communicate with its own Dirigera hub in its new sensor. The hub was updated on September 11, 2024 to support Matter and includes a Thread-enabled radio module.
This sensor, called Timmerflotte, will be compatible with existing Apple or third-party Matter controller devices, and will no longer need to purchase an IKEA hub for families already using other Matter-over-Thread hubs. The Timmerflotte sensor is powered by two AA batteries and is about the size of a typical smoke alarm.
The device is expected to be approved soon by FCC, but there is currently no specific information on the time of launch of Timmerflotte.
The above is the detailed content of New Ikea smart home device will work with any Thread hub. For more information, please follow other related articles on the PHP Chinese website!
