Enjoy larger-than-life video calls! This guide shows you how to easily project your video chats onto your TV for a more immersive experience. Whether you prefer a dedicated device or a simple wired/wireless connection, we've got you covered.

Dedicated Devices:

Several devices offer built-in video calling capabilities:

  • Amazon Fire TV Cube: Requires a webcam and enabling video calling via the Alexa app. Supports calls to Alexa-enabled devices with screens. See Amazon's instructions for detailed setup.
  • Facebook Portal: A dedicated webcam for your TV, connecting via HDMI. Supports Facebook Messenger and WhatsApp, including group chats (up to 50 participants on Messenger). Facebook provides setup instructions.
  • Android TV: If your TV runs Android TV, install Google Duo and connect a compatible webcam. Supports one-to-one and group calls with other Duo devices. Google provides setup information.

Note: Consoles, streaming sticks, and most boxes lack cameras and external camera support, making them unsuitable for video chatting.

Wired or Wireless Connections:

If you don't want a dedicated device, connect your existing video call device (phone, tablet, or laptop) to your TV:

  • HDMI Cable: Connect your laptop to your TV via HDMI (an adapter may be needed). Configure your TV as a second monitor in your system settings. Use your preferred video calling software (Zoom, Skype, etc.).

  • AirPlay (Apple Devices): Use AirPlay to wirelessly mirror your Apple device's screen to an Apple TV or AirPlay-enabled TV. Enable AirPlay from Control Center (iOS/iPadOS) or the menu bar (macOS).

  • Chromecast (Android Devices & Chrome Browser): Mirror your Android screen or Chrome browser to a Chromecast-enabled TV. Android users can find "Screen Cast" in the quick settings; Chrome users select "Cast" from the three-dot menu. For optimal Chromecast performance, use Google Meet.

Remember to position your device's camera correctly for all wireless methods. While mirroring your screen, you'll still use your device's camera and microphone.
