Google Drive is updating its desktop apps, ending support for the current versions in March. This article clarifies the changes, data safety, and necessary preparation steps.
What Remains Unchanged
Google Drive, the core service and office suite for file storage and document editing, remains unaffected. You can continue using Drive as usual: creating documents, spreadsheets, presentations, streaming videos, and uploading files via your web browser. Web browser access, mobile apps (Android and iOS), third-party apps integrating with Drive, and existing storage plans will all function as before.
What's Changing
The changes affect only the Google Drive desktop clients for Windows and macOS. These clients simplify syncing files between Drive and your computer. If you primarily use Drive through a browser, these changes won't impact you. However, if you rely on Drive for backups, the update is significant.
Google isn't removing these apps; it's replacing them. Home users get "Backup & Sync," introduced in July, offering more comprehensive computer backup capabilities. It allows selective folder syncing and enables uploading files from outside the designated Google Drive folder (e.g., backing up your Desktop or Documents folder). Importantly, it combines Drive and Photos syncing into a single app.
Business users (companies managing branded Google Drive and Gmail accounts) have two options: Backup & Sync and "Drive File Stream." Drive File Stream allows on-demand file access, keeping data primarily in the cloud and transferring only when needed, saving local disk space. Administrators can choose either or both options for their users.
Preparation Steps
Unless you're a Google Drive administrator (consult Google's official resources), download and install Backup & Sync. The new software handles uninstalling the old client and transfers your existing settings. Verify that Backup & Sync is syncing your desired folders. If you've never used a Google Drive desktop app, Backup & Sync automatically syncs chosen folders and backs up photos and videos. Browser-only users can continue as normal.
The existing Google Drive clients for Windows and macOS will be unsupported after December 11, 2017, meaning no further updates and potential bug issues. Complete support ends March 12, 2018.

mPDF
mPDF is a PHP library that can generate PDF files from UTF-8 encoded HTML. The original author, Ian Back, wrote mPDF to output PDF files "on the fly" from his website and handle different languages. It is slower than original scripts like HTML2FPDF and produces larger files when using Unicode fonts, but supports CSS styles etc. and has a lot of enhancements. Supports almost all languages, including RTL (Arabic and Hebrew) and CJK (Chinese, Japanese and Korean). Supports nested block-level elements (such as P, DIV),
