Managing Website Notifications Across Browsers: A Comprehensive Guide

Website notifications, while sometimes helpful, can quickly become overwhelming. This guide details how to control these alerts in popular browsers, ensuring a less cluttered browsing experience. Note that iOS devices don't support website notifications.

How to block or allow browser notifications from any website

Google Chrome:

Chrome typically prompts you to accept or reject notification requests. To modify these settings later:

  • Method 1 (Site-Specific): Click the padlock icon left of the address bar, select "Site settings," then "Notifications," and choose "Allow" or "Block."
  • Method 2 (All Sites): Click the three vertical dots (top right), then "Settings," "Privacy and security," "Site settings," and "Notifications." Here, you can manage permissions for all websites. The same process applies to Chrome on Android.

Mozilla Firefox:

Firefox displays a speech bubble icon in the address bar when a site requests notification permission. Clicking it allows you to accept or reject.

To manage all notification settings:

  • Open the Firefox menu (three horizontal lines, top right), select "Settings," then "Privacy & Security." Under "Permissions," find "Notifications" and click "Settings." Here, you can adjust individual site permissions and disable future notification requests. Android users can find similar settings under "Settings," "Site permissions," and "Notifications."

Apple Safari:

Safari requests notification permission directly. To prevent future requests:

  • Go to "Safari," "Settings," "Websites," and "Notifications." Uncheck "Allow websites to ask for permission to send notifications." You can manage existing permissions from this same menu.

Microsoft Edge:

Edge also presents a pop-up for initial notification requests. For later adjustments:

  • Site-Specific: Click the site information icon (padlock or "i" symbol) in the address bar, select "Permissions for this site," find "Notifications," and adjust the dropdown menu.
  • All Sites: Click the three dots (top right), then "Settings," "Cookies and site permissions," and "Notifications." This displays a list of all sites with managed notification permissions. Android users can access similar settings via the padlock/info icon or the three dots menu.

Opera:

Opera uses a pop-up dialog for initial notification requests. To change a site's settings later:

  • Site-Specific: Click the padlock icon (left of the address bar) and toggle the "Notifications" switch.
  • All Sites: Click the cog icon (left sidebar), then "Privacy & Security," "Site settings," and "Notifications." The "Add" button allows adding new sites. Android users can find these settings through the padlock icon or the Opera icon in the lower right corner.

This guide provides a comprehensive overview of managing website notifications across major browsers, empowering you to control your online experience.

Supports almost all languages, including RTL (Arabic and Hebrew) and CJK (Chinese, Japanese and Korean). Supports nested block-level elements (such as P, DIV),
