Avowed Companion Guide: Unlock, Switch, and Upgrade Your Allies
Avowed introduces companions early, showcasing their importance. Initially, you have one companion who survives the ship attack and fights alongside you in Northreach Fort. Freeing Ilora adds a second, but both depart once you reach Claviger's Landing, the main game's starting point. Let's explore how to acquire, manage, and enhance your companions throughout your adventure.
Unlocking Companions
Beyond the initial two, four more companions join your quest automatically during the main storyline:
Companion | Acquisition Method |
---|---|
Kai | Unlocked shortly after your Northreach Fort companions leave. You'll meet him at the dock. |
Marius | After being assassinated in Paradis and revived, you team up with him to investigate your attacker. |
Giatta | Found in Emerald Stairs after completing Dawnshore's main storyline. Requires obtaining an Adragan Heart. |
Yatzli | Met at Emerald Stairs, but joins your party after reaching Thirdborn in Shatterscarp and speaking to its leader. |
Managing Your Party
While Northreach Fort allows two companions, the main game limits you to two at a time. They accompany you everywhere, assisting in combat and exploration.
Switching companions is simple: visit any party camp. Upon exiting, you'll select your desired duo. The companions with the taller posters are your chosen party members.
Upgrading Companion Abilities
After acquiring your first companion in Claviger's Landing, a "Companion" tab appears in the abilities menu. This allows you to upgrade their abilities. Each companion has four abilities with three upgrade levels each.
Initially, one ability is unlocked. Unlocking and upgrading others requires spending points earned through shared companion EXP. The exact EXP needed for upgrades isn't displayed, unlike your own character's progression. Because upgrade points are limited, careful selection is crucial. You can reset individual companion upgrades using in-game currency.
