The Sims 2: Legacy Edition offers a wealth of instruments, electronics, and art supplies, providing artistic Sims with ample creative outlets. To fully utilize these items, you'll need to focus on developing your Sims' Creativity skill.
Maximizing Creativity is rewarding for storytelling, especially for artistically-inclined Sims. It's primarily built through writing novels, painting, and music creation. It's also a valuable skill for Sims pursuing non-traditional careers, offering lucrative alternative income streams.
A high Creativity skill enhances various aspirations, careers, hobbies, and interests. It also allows Sims to earn Simoleons from home by painting and selling artwork.
While no direct Creativity-based aspiration exists, Knowledge and Pleasure-focused Sims benefit most from skill development.
Several Sims 2 careers require Creativity for promotion: some demand early skill development (e.g., Entertainment), while others require it later (e.g., Slacker).
Certain careers offer unlockable items that aid Creativity development. For example, the Slacker career's AquaGreen Hydroponic Garden boosts Creativity while fostering Nature enthusiasm. The SensoTwitch Lie Finder (unlocked in the Criminal career) is another helpful tool. Cheats can unlock these items if desired.
Improving Creativity naturally increases enthusiasm for specific hobbies: Arts & Crafts, Music & Dance, and Film & Literature. Reaching high hobby enthusiasm unlocks new interactions and adds depth to Sim characters.
Unlike later Sims games, all artistic activities in The Sims 2 build Creativity. This simplifies creating a creative genius. Sims can use musical instruments, computers, and more to enhance this skill. Teen Sims can further develop their skills at university; however, this opportunity is unavailable to adults and elders.
Most Creativity-building items are found under the Hobbies menu (Buy Mode) in the Creativity sub-menu: drums, guitar, bass, microphone, easel, synthesizer, and pianos.
Other Buy Mode items also contribute, such as computers for novel writing (a free computer is provided initially). Nightlife and FreeTime introduce DJ booths (Buy Mode or Downtown clubs) for skill development. Buy Mode item descriptions indicate which skills they enhance. Note that sewing machines, pottery tables, and flower-arranging equipment build hobby enthusiasm, not skills.
Children and toddlers can also develop Creativity. Children and toddlers can use activity tables (group activities possible), and toddlers can use the Rip Co. Xylophone (Children's sub-menu, Miscellaneous). Children can independently use most adult Creativity-building items (violin, synthesizer, pianos).
